A Material World

Greeting TRFers.

From a pure materialistic perspective, where does your one favorite watch rank (in terms of personal importance/value) amongst anything you have ever purchased or been given?

For me, besides my house, my LVc is probably my single most cherished material thing I care about. My dad has a 1968 Pepsi GMT that will be willed to me some day (hopefully no time soon!) that may replace the LVc in significance.

Please note, I'm not including any faith-based or family-based intangible "things" in my response.

Of all of my disposable items I enjoy my watches more than anything else.

In my material world good health and family are the most important, things like my watches are far down my list of material things or priorities.

From purely a materialistic perspective my watches are pretty darn near the top. My house will be sold eventually and I'll move somewhere else, cars come and go, but I sure hope my two Rolexes are with me til the day I die, then my kids will have them. Hard to top that.

Health and family for me as well. If you have ever had a family member pass away... this would be high up on the list.

Money is easy to make... it grows on trees these days with all the amount of liquidity in the world. Lol. At least has has been the case since 2009.

Speaking in terms of strictly material, my Rolex watches top the list, followed by my sports cars.

Since you said excluding health family friends etc (which I would think are obvious to almost everyone), I'd say it's our home.

Watches rank somewhere in the top 3 with: the engagement and wedding rings, my guitar and a special painting my wife and I bought.

I used to collect quite a few things with watches being just one of them. Since 5 years ago I became a minimalist and disolved most of my collections. But I keep my Rolexes. For now besides my house the Rolexes are among my most valuable assess, but not the most. I keep them all in an early 19th century French iron safe which I equally like.

Methinks some people don't understand the meaning of "material things."

Watches, my late 1800s Gold Tiffany Minute Repeater pocket watch owned by my Great-Grandfather Charles Root and passed down to me by my father.

Rolex, my first, 1986 16550 Polar Explorer II

Then my phone, it's my adult security blanket.

I bought my 16610 right after getting engaged, wore it on my wedding day etc etc. it’s pretty high up on the list of my material possessions

I have some art that is pretty close to my watches, some of which is painted by my father, so the “material” procession line gets a little blurred there because of obvious sentimental reasons. Otherwise, yeah, my watches are at the top of my material pocessions. I also have a few other things that I really like and enjoy that we don’t talk about here on TRF.

For me, my BLNR represents the culmination of nearly 40 years of wanting one. Every time I wear it, I'm reminded how fortunate and blessed I truly am.

This says it all for me too. Watches would be 2 on the material list.

Excluding my investments which pay for all the other stuff, I’d rank my Porsche first Mercedes second and then my watches are tied with my coin collection. I don’t own a house if I did it would rank higher I guess.
