I looked at getting a AP RO Dual Time for a dress/sports travel watch but I really think I am going to end up with the VC Overseas Dual Time, I like the 42 mm case more and LOVE the bracelet!
I'm a BIG fan of the Dual Time both the VC and RO.
But if i had to choose it would be the RO for me

Stunning Thomas.
The black dial is the one I have been considering.

Just curious what do you like about the AP more?

My one big complaint about the watch is the 1 on the date wheel looks far too small, it really looks like it was squeezed in as an afterthought.

One ? I have is when you are traveling which is the dial that tells hometime is it the main dial or the sub dial? I have heard its the main dial and if so that is kinda silly as how can you tell the time in your current timezone in the dark as the small dial has no lume on it or its hands.

My big reason for the VC over the AP is the water resistance, when traveling if I wanna go for a swim I hate having to lock my watch in the safe or sitting there trying to keep my eye on my towel (with watch wrapped inside) beside the pool... I like watches I can take a swim with.

One more ? The AP seems to have an hour and minute hand on the Dual time subdial unlike the VC, can you set the minute hand independently on the sub dial or is it tied to the main dial so you really only are adjusting the hour? I ask as some timezones are not exactly an hr difference.

This may sound weird coming from me.. But i think the 42mm is too BIG. The RO has the perfect size for me as a dressier watch, just like i think the Rolex DJ or DD are perfect and classic as 36mm
And the RO is both sport and dressier at the same time imo

I've been looking at VC for quite some time now, but i still come back to AP RO and ROO.

Don't get me wrong here VC are beautiful but i just like AP better.

Thomas

I have tried both on and on the steel version I'd go with the RO, I just like the dial better and the bracelet in the Overseas is a little too much for me.

However, the steel / titanium version of the Overseas is way better looking than either on steel, that's the one I would get and it comes with a beautiful gray croc strap and a black rubber one.

Getting in here late, but glad to be an AP owners club member!

That being said, I do prefer the VC DT to the RP DT, however they are both stunning! The VC's bracelet and dial just seem cleaner to me.

New AP member here as well. I have been looking for the ultimate chrono with date and was lucky to secure a AP Panda. Looks like we may have 2 AP Pandas in Sydney, maybe more.

The watch is absolutely beautiful and I am so excited. This watch is a keeper. The only thing that I would like is a bracelet to go with it.

Question: is the Silver Themes a regular production watch or will the production stop sometime into the future?

Thanks.

I have owned my AP RO for over 16 years. I purchased it as a result of an unhappy experience with the NY Rolex service center and at the urging of my wife.

In 1995, I took my 16 year old Rolex DD to the NY RSC for it's 3rd service. The RSC agent showed my watch to the watchmaker for a quick review and said they would service the watch but would not touch the bracelet. They said it was worn out and wanted to sell me a new bracelet for $6250. I had them service the watch. They handed me the bracelet. When I received the watch back from service, I reinstalled the bracelet and started to limit my wearing of the DD.

I decided that rather than spending the $$ for a new bracelet, that I would purchase a new watch. My wife was with me when I stopped at a Rolex AD and was looking at a Daytona. My wife spied the Royal Oak in the showcase and asked the salesperson about it. The salesperson showed us the watch and explained the history of AP. Comparing the quality and attention to detail on the AP vs. the Rolex, there was no comparison. My decision was made and I walked out with my AP.

My Royal Oak was my daily wearer for the next five years. In 2000, I started buying more watches and have already passed several that are not listed in my signature to my two sons.

My AP still gets worn in rotation with my other watches. I still have the DD. The bracelet that was the reason for the AP purchase was "tightened" two years ago by Michael Young.

Here is a photo of my 14790:

Congrats and welcome to the club
The Panda was the watch that made me mad about AP
You should be able to order a bracelet from your AD.

Answer: The Silver themes is a regular production AP, about how long they will produce it only AP knows.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, it was the Panda that made me also mad about AP and I am still excited that it is my first AP.

The dial is just perfect, hints of red over a clear, readable silver background and black chronograph. I have been looking for a legible chronograph with date and this is "it".

Considering that I change my collections regularly, I would consider this a keeper.

Now, I just have to sell my GMT IIc and my IWC Portuguese 5454 to cover the acquisition

The panda was also the one that made me go ga ga over AP. To me, the only AP that would make me give up the Panda would be the RB2 Ti... slurp!

Have you got a chance to try some of the LE Offshores?
I tried several and i seriously like the cases on the regular ones much better,
Don't get me wrong they are awsome but i'm just not that fond of the bulkier cases.

That´s a killer combo. My next will be either that brown ROC or a Panda.

I like them all but too bad, they all cost so expensive. My next target is to replace my panda with the RB2 Ti, afterwhich it will be the 2011 daytona (assuming that looks good in the flesh) and finally a VC grey dual time. So with that, I will have 1 IWC, 1 Rolex and 1 set of the holy trinity. Now, time to work hard towards that goal of 5 watches!
