Submariner-case Yacht-Master (1992-1994): brushed or polished lugs?
The very first Yacht-Masters (1992-1994ish) had cases identical to Subs aside from the caseback. Instead of the shiny stubby Yacht-Master lugs, they had regular Submariner lugs that reach past the endlink. You can even see the lugholes on the pic Rolex.com uses to illustrate the Yacht-Master's debut in 1992:
The lugs appear to be polished, but then again it has a "SWISS only" dial which it wouldn't have really had in 1992. I just saw that Tourneau has a Submariner-case Yacht-Master up for sale with polished lugs: But these two examples have brushed lugs: I'm leaning towards brushed being original. I wonder if so many of them turn up polished because watchmakers simply think Yacht-Masters are supposed to have polished lugs, or if they actually came that way. Does anyone know if the Sub-case YM's originally had brushed or polished lugs? Thanks! |
