Rolex 1655

2021 is the anniversary year of the Explorer 2, almost 50 years ago Rolex produced the 1655 from 1971 till 1984. Here are my first and last production Explorer 2 watches. (MK1 and MK5)
From 1971 till 1974 the 1655 was produced with a straight second hand and a case with almost pointed crown guards. After 1974 the crown guards got bigger.

Stern produced the dial and over the production period there where 5 dial variations, starting with the T swiss T MK1 dial, and ending with the T swiss<25 T dial on the MK5.

The movement is the 1575 on both watches, other differences are the bracelets, the MK1 has a 7836 folded bracelet and the MK5 has a 78360 solid link bracelet.

Due to the anniversary next year, rumor is Rolex will bring out a special Explorer 2 (like they did with the Kermit for the submariner 50 year anniversary)so you might want to hold on to your Explorer 2 because the value will skyrocket if they do so in 2021.
