So, with this watch comes with a story. Like all Rolex’s, have stories!

I bought this watch back in 2017 off a local guy in mint condition and had to sell it in 2018! Fast forward Two years later I had to have another Rolex 16600 back! I was absolutely in love with that watch, and it was crispy condition.

Trying to find an unpolished 16600 with a full kit seemed to be impossible. Until I saw it on Luna Oryster’s site in almost the same conditions as to when I sold it in! I wasn’t quite sure it was the same watch. The hang tag kind’ve gave it anyway.

So here she is,after two years of letting it go I find the exact same watch I let go in 2018! I was unsure of the serial number but when I keep looking at the pictures the hang tag was telling me that I’ve seen it before!

After the purchase and delivery of the watch, it’s back on my wrist! Now, if your asking yourself if I paid twice as much! Well not exactly! But close! All that matters to me is that it’s back on my wrist! And again smitten ! Well not let it go this time. No pun intended...

I think its perhaps the most beautiful and at the sametime most underrated piece in Rolex catalogue.

I am totally in love with this model. Has a date without the cyclops, almost the same size as the new sub, the question poses itself, "why don't people look at this as an alternative to the sub?" why is the submariner so much more popular than this? heck, even the GMT has way more suitors.

I envy all those who own this timeless classic, how many of you like it more than the newer SD? how many own this besides the Submariner? do you wear both? Probably should made a new thread but wth I am feeling lazy saturday.

That's a crazy story! I have a very similar experience.

I bought a SD 16600 back in 2017 , which was a very sharp, almost mint E serial, which means 1990! So it was an early 16600 that had no bracelet stretch at all, LOVED IT. It had the tritium dial but no discolouration at all.

Picture of the beauty:

I sold it in 2019 and missed it ever since. It was perfect.
Now, this week, I bought another 16600 back. This time, a 2001 SuperLuminova example with perfect lume still.

It's 10 years younger, but has a faded blue bezel (which looks amazing) and a little stretch on the bracelet. But is still in a very good condition otherwise.

Here she is:

Did it cost me more? Yes. About 50% more even! But I also don't care.
I have it again and this time, it stays for good!

They're so different that despite their obvious association, they look and wear very differently. I love them both and would have a hard time to choose... .
The 16600 maybe wins in terms of "purist" aesthetics but both wear quite comfortably and there's no doubt whatsoever that the 3235 is a much more accurate movement.
Keep in mind that unlike the previous new-gen SD (SD4K), the 126600 has slimed-down lugs which are more reminiscent of its SD roots

:
This is true, except the SD43 is also much heavier. The bigger size wasn't the issue, because as you point out, the lugs are more tapered so it wears quite well, even on smaller wrists. But the weight gave me wrist fatigue, so I'll stick to my 16600.

Tritium dial bought new in 1994 for my 26th birthday- so many memories as It’s been with me half of my life! Have added a couple of GMTs, Explorer II and a Daytona 116519LN since, but I still love this watch!
