Both fine watches. Surprised no one has mentioned the much better proportions on the 16600. The beveled and curved lugs are beautiful, where as the six digit has stubby lugs that seem to be an afterthought. I have owned both and was so lucky to recently pick up a 16600. It has a charm that has been lost in my opinion.

Not sure how this thread from 2015 suddenly came back today.

Objectively the 6-digit reference is 'better', for the ceramic and more importantly for the glide lock clasp instead of needing a toothpick to adjust the bracelet sizing during the day.

But stylistically I agree the proportions of the 16600 are nice and the smaller markers with a gloss dial are (to my taste) more classy rather than the more "in-your-face" on the newer model maxi dial;and I don't need the minute markers to go all the way around the bezel.

If someone wants to exchange their 116600 for my 16600 in same condition, then ok, I'll take it - and put up with the cosmetics I prefer less, to get the glidelock and ceramic. But, that's not going to happen, and the price difference from 16600 sell to 116600 buy is money that could be put towards something else.

I tried on the 116600 several times when it came out, but ended up buying the 16600. The ceramic bezel and glidelock bracelet were definite upgrades in quality/feel, but the 16600 just looked more classic on the wrist.

No one is mentioning the asymmetrical "frogman" effect of the legacy 5-digit cases is now gone with the symmetrical 6-digit models. That was a huge "charm" factor IMHO. Rolex could have increased the lug width and kept the asymmetry. Wish they had as this is hard to overlook if you have history with the original Oyster case design.

Old version for me. I have a 2009 serial, perfectly proportioned, a watch that makes little fuss and will still look the part in years to come. Classic.
