A new Panerai Mare Nostrum Acciaio 42mm

This looks very nice. I dislike the faux patina though. Same movement as the original 1993 too.

Thanks

Love the look. Hate the next to nothing water rating and don't like Dubose modular stuff.

50 metres depth is more than enough for anyone other than professional divers.

As for the watch itself, I don't dislike it but there are about two dozen other PAMS that I'd like to get my grubby paws on first.

Thanks for sharing

Thanks. I always liked the look of it and the story behind it is quite interesting. From what I can tell this will be a re-issue of a prototype of a watch that never made it into production.

Interesting.

I don't hate it but I think it's one I'll have to see in the metal to decide.

Always loved the Mare. The '90s pre-Vendome era was a special one for Panerai.

As for Hodinkee, they can be so unbearable at times: "will collectors be elated or exasperated?" There's so much to say about this watch without going to the Panerai bashing well.

Some of the lume is white for the chrono and dome is ecru for the time. Also, the article said it's a reissue of the 1993 mare. Base movement and all.

But it's not faux patina, it's just beige coloured lume, as Panerai have done on many of their so called dirty dials - their is nothing faux or patina about it. I have a 069, and the lume on that is green - white is not the only colour lume that is available or allowed.

I'm pretty sure the ecru colour is considered faux patina. Simulating age

The older one is also nice. But at 52mm it's way to big.

I read the Hodinkee article and the letters to the editor. Everybody hates the Panerai so that's a plus as far as I'm concerned. If the caseback said Hodinkee limited edition 1 of 50 they'd be falling all over themselves trying to get one. I had a Patek incoming a couple days ago and it was a watch released in 2015. I looked up the Hodinkee review and again everyone hated the watch, over 50 letters to the editor. Funny part is the watch is impossible to get and selling for 10K plus over retail.

Thanks for the early congrats, pictures as soon as it arrives.

That's the 603 from 2015. SE of 150 units.

Just ask around. I prefer the white. Should stop anyone from getting the ecru but most will tell you that Panerai is trying to simulate patina. If not naturally occurring over time most consider that faux patina or fake but I was being polite. Other companies do lots of colors. Blue, red etc. that's isn't the same idea though. A like to like example would be some Bell & Ross watches. Some they are trying to give a vintage spin also have the ecru lume. Either way, if you like it go for it. Fist example I can think of though that uses both the white and ecru lume on the same watch.

Also ecru lume and all, I'd consider it but I'm gonna pick up a 233. The luminors are my first love and I'm current without a Panerai. I'm not against a modular movement as DD make dome of the best but I'd like an all in house movement. A reason I went with my AP diver over a chrono.

Great piece. Excellent alternative to those who want a chronograph that stands apart from the Daytonas of the world

Not for me but I can understand the attraction for some. Another example of Panerai reissuing a watch with modifications.
