Considering Seiko SKX007

I have been wearing my Sub 114060 for a few months and love it to death, but there are certain situations where I don't want to be wearing a Rolex (Caribbean vacations, on the motorcycle, etc.)

Wondering if anyone here has first hand experience with a Seiko SKX007 as I feel it would be a good "beater" diver. I tried on an SKX009 locally today and it seemed to fit nicely, but I think I would get bored of the blue. Any insight on the 007? Will 100% be purchasing online brand new. Anything to look out for?

It's a great cheap watch to have. I rarely wear mine but it's one to have if you want a watch you don't care about.

It’s a great beater diver. Obviously the bezel and finish won’t be up to the 114060 standards, but it’s fantastic for what it is.

Only real downside is the fact you can’t hand wind it.

It's the watch that got me into divers. For the price, i can't think of a reason NOT to own one. Sure you don't get handwind or hacking, and many have alignment issues with the chapter ring, but for me, it's just about the perfect beater. A mechanical watch I get pleasure looking at, but cheap enough I don't care about a few scratches.

For activities where the watch would take a proper beating i would only wear the SKX007. Great overall watch, diver with great depth rate, automatic, day, date, what else can you ask for 250 odd dollars? Best value for money there.
Mine has some issues with power reserve. I wonder what is the rating for power reserve?

It's a great watch for situations where you don't want to risk anything happening to a nice watch. Or, just a change of pace. It's somewhat thick and the accuracy not great, but it's only around $200! Looks great on different straps, too. I put it on a cheap rubber strap in the summer and it's cool change from the Sub.

Proud owner of 4 modded SKX's and an SRP. Great values and a blast to customize.

I'm thinking of getting one and modding with a 12-hour bezel for maximum versatility as a travel watch.

Can't go wrong with SKX007. But I do prefer hand windable movement so i would suggest SPR777. :)

Not my watch, but I've been meaning to do this for a while. Can I justify owning 2 SKX? yes, probably.

Big fan of 12 hour bezels. My latest heavily modded SKX w/ TST shroud conversion, Dagaz super dome, and ceramic insert.

Get one. Great beater. If you get bored of the look then get into modding.

Just ordered the skx007, shipping should take a couple weeks. Got a decent deal on ebay, they happened to have a promo for an additional 20% off which was a nice surprise. Does anyone have any good suggestions for either a rubber or nylon strap replacement? Not a huge fan of the rubber that it comes on.

Congrats on the 007!

Check out Benetto Cinturini rubber straps. Great quality, decent price.

Congratulations on your SKX-great watch!

For additional strap options I suggest looking up Uncle Seiko online.
I am considering one of their Tropic straps for my skx013.
I also think their Z119 bracelet looks great.

Enjoy your new watch

It's a great watch. My dad "borrowed" mine. That was some time ago. He loves it.
