Rolex Submariner

New to the forum a considering a Rolex Submariner date. My question is if Rolex is coming out with a 2016 model soon? Not sure if it matters but if they are coming out with a new model soon, I can wait.

I really don't see any changes coming anytime soon. It sounds like your thinking Rolex changes the watch yearly, they do not. As far as a sub, subtle changes may occur once every ten or so years. As far as where they are at now, ceramic bezel insert, glide lock clasp, I don't see any need for change for many years.

New models are announced at Basel and usually show up during the second half of the year.

I really don't see any major changes next year for the Sub, but no one except Rolex knows.

If you don't mind waiting a year, you should. Otherwise a sub date is always a safe and easy choice.

You don't however want to get caught up in a never ending waiting period. Next year this time, you might be thinking about a possible change for the 2017 Sub.

Rolex models don't change each year like cars. It's very unlikely the Sub will change any time soon.

Thanks all. Really like the look of the Submariner and like you guys have mentioned, the look is timeless. Was under the impression the models were upgraded annually, or close to it.

If you're looking at a black Sub, there's not much that they could change, so I'd say just go for it.

I love my sub-c. The only thing I would change would be if they came out in Platinum. Then I would get a second job to afford it.

Nope; Rolex watches do not come out by model year.

Typically they "upgrade" a model around every 10 years, but that might be something relatively simple like a new bracelet.

The Sub was just "updated" a couple of years ago with the ceramic bezel insert and reshaped case. Before that it went for more than 20 years relatively unchanged. The Sub Date got these updates a couple of years before the Sub.

So, I wouldn't expect much different for the Sub or Sub Date in the coming year; certainly nothing visibly different.

I am eyeing the steel black Submariner date (116610LN). Not sure if I've heard of the "SubC" before. Is there a difference between the one I'm looking at and the SubC?

I doubt there's much gimmicks or tweak they can do to the Stainless Steel Subs now.
So any ceramic stainless steel sub is gonna be current for the next 5 years?

You are looking at the SubC. The "C" just means "ceramic", as the bezel insert on the 116610 is made of ceramic as opposed to the pervious iteration, the 16610, on which the bezel insert is made of aluminum.
