Icon5 GS GMT "elegance" showdown: SBGM221G vs. SBGJ217G

Has anyone had the opportunity to compare and contrast the SBGM221G and SBGJ217G? If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I own the 221 Cru and love it. The ivory dial really makes this watch special as it has such a retro vibe to it. They are both nice but for me glad I chose the 221!

Really nice photo, thank you, Ken!

How has the thickness been for you in the context of the overall vibe of the watch? I really love the ivory color and dial features, but was not sure about the 13.7 mm height for the watch.

It doesn’t wear thick at all and quote comfortable Cru!

Thanks, Ken, for your feedback. I had first noticed this watch a few years back and really liked it. I think maybe the 2-lines of “Seiko/GS” felt a tad busy at the time with the numerals, but the current 1-line version is, to me, absolute !

Thanks for helping me rediscover this one. I have a lot to think about.

It is an amazing watch and still blown away by the finishing and what you get for the dollar. For me the value proposition is hard to beat! Good luck Cru,

I don’t have any GS but have looked several times at the NYC store. The indices are so well done. 221 is great in this regard with so many surfaces to reflect light.

I prefer the 221, but I think the 217 looks more "elegant", with the longer gmt hand and slightly less busy dial.

This is a really great point. I can see how all of the very fine GS finishing of the 221 helps make up for it not having a Hi-Beat or Spring Drive movement.

That cream dial is a beauty.

221 has a cluttered dial, in my opinion. I do love the dial color on either though.

What Ken says!
221 and it‘s the watch that gets the most wrist time since I own it!
