Vintage Gold Pieces

Lately, I've been very interested in vintage gold pieces from Rolex. I don't know what changed my focus, but I've been drawn to a few yellow gold vintage pieces like the 16528, 16718 (on jubilee of course) and 18238.

I tried on a 18238 last week, and it seemed a bit too tapered / dainty for my wrists. I do not wear oversized watches (I am even of the opinion that the modern Daytona looks a drop too big on my 6.75" wrist), but I think the slimmer and more tapered design of the 5-digit models really resonates with me. Here are a few examples of watches I've been eyeing lately.... who's with me?!

(not my pics)

Very nice. Be sure to try before you buy - gold head and gold bracelet tend to be a bit more blingy in real life than in photos.

For the sports watches, sure, those are pretty bold. But when I'm wearing my all-gold 1012 or 1013, most casual observers are going to guess it's a Seiko SGF model or similar plated watch. There are so many lookalikes of the classic 101x watches I don't think anyone has ever commented on mine except friends of mine who wear them too!

Daytona of the two. Its a great reference and the inverted 6 dial helps... Would prefer a nipple dial GMT (more$$ though).

And I agree, you're definitely getting your bling on with an all-gold sports watch.

i cant imagine a Daytona being too big on you.....women pull off Daytonas. I dont know what to tell you.....if the DD is too small the Daytona is too big....A sub and gmt have more presence then the Daytona.

Rolex might not be for your my friend...sorry.

The one I liked the most was a YG wideboy 1803...right up until a burglar scarfed it.

It’s still out there somewhere but both the police report and Rolex theft report may bring it home again someday.

SS is great but sometimes the extra shine and weight really perks up your day! Here's mine 16238 with Saudi Armed Forces dial.
