Many pocket watches back in the day were housed in various style cases made by various manufacturers. The customer could pick one. This appears to be in an Illinois Watch Case Company case based out of Elgin, Illinois. That's probably from the later 20's.
There are similar Rolex pocket watches that match that dial. I'm just not too familiar with them. I have no idea of their worth.

Different watch case makers used a Rolex movement. Some sellers post prices as high as $2000 depending upon size, rarity and gold karat.
You can search Google for some selling now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Thank you all for your answers, I think the hands must be from another watch, since the minute one seems very long. and the dial I think the Rolex signature can be original of the time

Really the only thing Rolex is the movement and dial. Its a lever movement which are quite common. The value will be in the amount of gold in the case and the minimal value of the movement.
The Rolex pocket watches that bring the higher value are those that are in known Rolex cases which are usually of solid precious metal, ie Dennison, RWC, etc

That gold-filled Illinois case is American made, and earlier than 1924 when the US government prohibited case makers from using guarantees about the number of years the gold fill on the outside would last.
The case shows another case screw mark, so likely was used at some point for a different movement. The case can't be used to date the watch, but 1900 to 1920 would be a good range. That type of pocket watch (crown and pendant at 3) is called a "sidewinder". Gold-filled cases do not command high values; what counts is the overall wear and any engravings on the outside. Not much gold in them. Still, a nice collectible pocket watch and a good find. |
