Yesterday my AD called asking me whether I would like to place an order. Being a businessman, not that I intend to sell, I was wondering whether this watch would hold its value, what with it having a high price. I would value your opinion on this, from a third party point of view. |

Your 5711p is commanding a premium now because it is a 700 pc limited edition. The 5740/1G is not a limited series. It could really go either way. Sorry I'm of not much help here, so I suggest you to buy it only if you really like the watch, and if you can stomach the loss if the value goes south Or consider again 1 or 2 years later to see the effects. I believe your AD will still get you this watch given your strong relationship. |

Thanks again Ichiran. Your views are absolutely right. Very fair and reasonable opinions and I thank you for that. While writing this, my AD just apps me. He suggested I wait and see how the market reacts before deciding. Exactly what you have said. |

Now where’s the fun in that? Get in early and enjoy being one of the first with it – sod the residual value, unless you know absolutely for sure that it’ll not stay in your possession for longer than 6-12 months. Otherwise, just wear it and appreciate the silly grin it’ll put on your face when you check the time every 10 minutes! |

Thanks Tyler. I like the fact that this is the first time grand complications is offered with a Natilus. I also like the blue dial. So I wait and see how the market reacts before deciding. |

The problem with the wait and see approach is the watch will retain its highest value when you’re least likely to sell it - after you’ve just bought it, and will likely lose value as you get bored of it when there are more flooding the market plus newer models attracting interest.

I would prefer one(seconds hand) but the absence of one is not a deal breaker.

I am going out on that speculative limb again, the watch will even look more striking in person than the photos. I think it is another PP home run. I have never tired of that blue dial (5976)!

I have been told that in Singapore and possibly worldwide, all Natilus would be sold by AD without any discounts.
1. Is this true? 2. Would the 5740g fall into this category, regardless of it being a new entrant and highly priced or is it too early to say? |

I would bet there is zero chance for a 5740G discount and still there will be people who cant get it as i cant imagine there will be a ton of them floating around.

It will be interesting to see what approach Patek Philippe elect to take with respect to the production of the 5740/1G; based on their commentaries, it would appear that journalists have been briefed about the fact that some technical work was required to install the perpetual calendar complication in the Nautilus case, which I see as meaning there are research, development and production costs to be recouped. It is also noteworthy that Patek Philippe has seemingly not been enjoying tremendous sales success with its more complicated pieces of late, which are widely available and generally seem to be oversupplied based on current demand. As such, they may be tempted to alter their production mix away from other perpetual calendars in favour of this Nautilus-cased 5740/1G.
