for what you get 5164. Icon status, resale, hype aside. Its a better watch IMO.

Even at retail pricing (which are pretty close), excluding all other factors I think the 64 is a better value.

When you say actual, do you mean MSRP?

Best value for money is very subjective. 1 guy thought the Paul Newman Daytona is worth $17m, but I wouldn't even spend more than $10k on it.

From a complications perspective, obviously 5164 offers more bang for the buck with its travel time function, but there are also other factors involved in determining the desirability of a watch. Aesthetic is very important to me, I like the simple elegance of the 5711, the color of the dial, and the beautiful nautilus bracelet. I would further argue that the 5711 blue is the more iconic watch given the longer history and the story behind the design. Also, I was in this hobby due to a 5711 picture I saw in a magazine, but I have not heard of friends around me who is drawn into horology because of the 5164.

Indeed very subjective as said already.
For me the best value for money is the watch that I love, enjoy, and admire the most.
The 5711 was my grail and I lusted for it for a long time before pulling the trigger.
2 years later I still have the same feeling overtime I strap it on, and I would never trade it for a 5164.

Both are gorgeous watches, and being biased aside, I genuinely think the 5711 is better "value" (when bought at tag price).
The design tracks back to the original simple and time only genta designed nautilus.
I have noticed you are in love with your 5164 though(very obvious why, beautiful watch), are you considering a trade now?

All the best brother!

Its not easy to stand aside the hype and stay cool minded lol... 5711 is a heavy weight champion no doubt, iconic piece, and an investment ! But still, even at the same price, for aesthetic & complication reasons and my way of live, I would chose 5164... Stange man I am my master !

Both are wonderful pieces but they are not quite the same price!
Patek 5711/1A £22,820 (even after 20% increase)
Patek 5164A £26,050

if you can buy with the list price of course 5711. but If you will pay the premium on grey market go for 5164a... Personally I can 95% get what I want from the salons and boutiques so I do not understand paying that crazy premium to 5711/1a...

64 of course. Before the price hike the 5711 was easily the better value.

At retail the 64 was always a high buy, esp if you come from Rolex where no premium is put on the GMT function. However at resale the 64 is increasingly becoming a steal compared to the 3 others in the Gang of 4.

The key word here is at current market prices... you'd be crazy to argue that 50K for a 5711 is a better value for money when you could have a 5164 at 34K.

In a normal market, I could go either way, and the 5164 does seem very steep when compared to the 5167.

I voted 5711 Blue at 30K. A lot of money for a time only SS watch but you cant beat the versatility of the piece. Pairs well with a t-shirt or a suit. The 5164 is a beauty but IMO the rubber strap is not great for dressier situations.

I'm a proud owner of a 5164 for the last few months and as much as I love the 5711, the 5164 is a truly amazing watch. It's on my wrist 15 hours a day 7 days a week.
