Looks like they turned out nice. Are you still considering a Tudor ? I was just going to suggest a used BB eta as being a great bang for buck piece.

Have it serviced and enjoy wearing it. You’ll always think of your dad when it’s on your wrist. Sorry for your loss!

Nothing haha, I was wearing my Seamaster 300m as a daily and the Rolex was in the box. Last week or so I've been wearing the Rolex though.

The Tudor BB GMT hasn't turned up yet (was originally expected July), I am going to take the Rolex to Rolex UK HQ in next few weeks for service.

Just been reading through the forums again and realised I haven't updated this thread. So I got the watch back from watchguy.co.uk in 2019 and it has been running very well since, the watch doesn't get a lot of wrist time due to the sentimental value of it and the fact that watch robberies on on the rise in the UK.

Few pictures from watchguy.co.uk

I usually get it out for birthdays/events etc!

So on the 19th June 2022 I put it on as it was dads birthday, on the 25th June 2022 I welcomed into the world at 03:45 (GMT) my first child while wearing dads watch, I have several pictures of the watch resting on the sleeping boy (for when he inherits it).

Picture below is me waiting in the waiting room to be told I can come into theatre (planned C-section)

I am planning on wearing it for my wedding in April 2024.

In my meantime, my Omega is still running very nicely, my Tudor GMT has been back to RSC twice with date issue, they have told me this time it should be fixed. I'd still like to get another Rolex for my 40th in 6 years time, did fancy a black submariner but now quite fancy a 41mm Datejust Wimbledon.

Sorry for your loss. I would not hesitate to have a good local shop do the service and light polish. That said, if you dont know anyone, than an RSC is the way to go. The cost will be a little more and the service might take 1 to two months longer than a local guy. I had my 166710ln SS ceramic GHT serviced locally with a light polish and it was 632.00 usd out the door.

Very sorry for your loss. I too inherited my father’s Rolex when he passed a couple of years ago: a Zenith Daytona. My love of this piece far transcends the watch itself. It is a constant reminder of Dad and as I sit here this very moment bed side with my Mom who is in failing health, I am wearing Dad’s watch. It brings me strength and I know Mom and Dad will be together soon.

I have always believed that special watches like this are less about telling the time and far more about marking time. Look at the watch on your wrist and remember a special memory of your father. With that, he still lives in your heart and memory. In the future, pass the watch down to a child or grandchild. And when that day comes that you pass it down to a child or grandchild, tell the recipient all about your father.

* I only use Rolex for service. It may cost more but I’m not taking any chances.

Good luck.

I inherited my grandpa’s 1803 and cherish it as well. The memories and stories add so much non-monetary value to these pieces. And now your child will have a tangible connection to the grandpa he never met. You’re doing well by your dad!

That’s fantastic. Fathers and sons.
I mentioned above how I also have my late father’s watch. I’m a huge believer in this. I also have a son but mine is grown, married and no longer an active account holder of the Bank of Dad!

When I turned 30, i bought a steel datejust in a steel and yellow jubilee, used, for $3,000 I believe. I was never so proud. Felt like I’d made it.

The day my son graduated college I gave it to him. Was a pretty special thing for us.

I would suggest against sending it to Rolex. There are probably several highly qualified watchmakers in your area (London, right?) that would be able to do a better job, for less money, in a faster fashion too.

So this is my advice: take them to your local watchmaker.

It was done in 2019 eventually, this is an old thread by a watchmaker using Rolex parts.

That's my plan, I have the 3 watches at moment to hand down, i'll probably keep dads until my last breath and then put it in the Will.

I've been wearing my Tudor GMT for months now, decided to switch it out and wear my Omega (which is a nicer wearing watch due to not being as bulky).

Here's the 3 of them together.

I would of put the Rolex on but I've put some weight on and need to put another link back in it, and they are in the loft.

I think the best place to send it to is Rolex and you should inform them not to polish it.

Had the watch in for "valuation" today to make sure I had it insured correctly. Valuation is double what I had it insured for! and my sisters is also double what she had it insured for. Turns out hers has a rarer stone dial.
