Gondolo 5111J - opinions

I’m going to view a Gondolo 5111J on Friday, would be trading a sub against it.
Price seems fair at £10000 for a 2008 with box and papers.
I know it’s not a very popular model but anyone have any experiences/opinions on it please?

I have only ever seen them in a shop window. In my opinion, they just look so fabulous and classy. I was looking in a window in York, a chap next to me could see what I was looking at and asked my opinion of it, I said as I did above, which was a good job, because he was wearing one. It was just superb.

We stood chatting about watches outside for a good half hour, I was wearing a GS.

I think they are a great value.
Only reason it doesn't sell for more is the shape.

If it was round, it would cost another $8,000

My Gondolo is a 5124J-001, and I bought it because I like Reversos and Cartier Tanks.

That is the only reason anyone should have for buying a watch.

I do like the 5124 better than 5111. Just a bit more attractive case design.

I love the Gondolo shape to me it's a casino watch, don't know why.

I bought the 5111j yesterday, swapped it for my Submariner 126610LN, just can’t get on with Rolex anymore now I have the high horology bug!
I would have preferred a 5124 but unfortunately didn’t have any funds available to add to the deal this time.

A very nice watch and one of the few PP over the years that have tempted me.

You're moving in the right direction, imho the 5124G is the best three hand PP but the 5111 is not too shabby. Good one!

I like the cushion cases, like a 5940, more than the Gondolo. If I was inclined this way, I’d get a manta case, like a 5100.

It's currently in 25 Bags? Wouldn't go near this personally, I'd get one in person. Last Christies auction was 20k all in USD (hammer plus buyers premium) and that was a good buy likely for a dealer. But, sometimes people get lucky.

5111 are really neat. Very thin and comfortable. Very wide lug spacing 23 or 24mm.
This makes the watch very stable on the wrist. I prefer it over the 5124.

Gondolo 5111J - opinions

I had one of these a while ago. Found it at a local store, paid about $10k and thought it was a great value for a Patek.
Wore it like three times and had it serviced like three times.

Haha, strange as the 215 movement is very reliable. Important to buy the watch and not the price and from a seller offering a warranty, hopefully at least you had one.

Yes, wide lug spacing gives a presence and stability. 5124 has similar spacing and a curved case back, one of the coolest cases and most comfortable wearing PP. Dial is outrageously nice in person.

I bought this watch and love it! Sleek, classy, and could be dressed up (black or green strap) or down (OEM tan)

A salmon breguet numeral Patek is a privilege and I feel lucky to have one.

Gotta say it’s so much nicer than a Reverso in terms of how they feel on the wrist.
