5270j
Have the opportunity to buy a 5270J from my AD. Also worth mentioning I'm still waiting to be allocated a Nautilus (of which my wife has two, and I have zero).
Thoughts on being offered the 5270J? Cheers, B |

Probably the least desirable 5270? I wouldn’t unless it was a really good deal. That’s a pretty gnarly piece to buy at MSRP although their 2nd hand prices seem to be a lot better than the last time I looked.
I would maybe be a buyer for a dial I like at $135 but not $160 or $180. |

I mean...thoughts? Thoughts on what exactly? That you were offered one? OK...cool.
Do you want it? Do you love it? Not sure what you are really asking here?? |

OP mentioned that the watch was offered by the AD….do you think the AD would give that much discount on the 5270? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Only buy what you like One of my friends who always like to buy the hot pieces (only to resell them later at a profit) bought the 5270P salmon dial at market peak and got suck with it. Those heavy watches are really hard to move. I one the other hand love the 5270J and if you pass on the watch please let me which AD you deal with as I might pick it up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

200k after tax is hard to swallow imo. should be easy to find one at 150k on the grey market. Probably a great relationship builder but for 200k retail price you can almost buy a 5370 grey - that would be my biggest problem.
I guess the question comes down to what are your future plans with this AD and patek in general? Are you looking to buy rare handcrafts and MR down the line thru them or do you "just" want a nautilus ? If that's the case Id just buy a 5712 grey right now and call it quits. |

No, in other words I was saying I wouldn’t buy it. However, if they don’t want it just sitting in a safe somewhere they’re going to have to somehow bundle or discount it. I’m still not used to the current market. GCs like that used to be “easy” to get and silly to buy at MSRP.

I waited more than 1 year for the 5270J until my AD decided to get another 5270 for me. It is in very high demand here. Maybe Patek should rethink their allocation strategies for these 5270 in terms of geography. During my recent trip to Kansai, I went into several Patek AD and there was no Patek for sale. No GC, no complications, no ladies. Nothing out there.

I think over the years I have seen 2-3 5270s in the metal at my old AD (RIP). Nowadays, no clue, but if you really want a 5270 Watchbox has two of the rose gold with bracelet right now (heavy banger) at MSRP of the 5270J. I’d go for those anyday.

Well said! I agree with you on that "only buy what you like' and not for the other reason because you might get stuck with it and at the end, be at the losing end!

Yeah I’d think so. You walk in as a cash buyer and boom. A dealer you figure they are probably buying at 130 or so. I dunno I am about to sell my 5167 to pay for my new DD40 so I’ll find out out much they’re looking to make.

There’s a gorgeous rose gold in amazing near new condition 5970r for sale for $225k with a very similar vibe but to me more desirable if we’re looking at the range of what’s out there

Simple answer - do you like the watch? If yes, can you afford it? If yes, does it bring you a step closer to being allocated a Nautilus? If again yes, go back to do you like the watch again!
I always abide by - buy what you love(!), and that you can afford it. If it's a means for me to be allocated a dream watch, then i would pass! Simple as that. And please, forget about investment. Like some have pointed out, you may (or may not!) make money out of the 5270j. 5270j is my holy grail, and i'm waiting to lay my hands on it. Waiting and waiting... Good luck with your decision and keep us posted on the outcome. |

I absolutely love this watch. My grail. Trying to acquire a few other pieces BEFORE this, as once i acquire it then I don’t anticipate searching for much, if anything, else.

I really wish they would offer the 5270J in a black dial.
OP, if you really want a PCC from Patek, the white dial 5270 is a gorgeous piece. But don’t buy it if you don’t love it. That’s a lot of money. |

Picked up mine about a month ago - Thought I would wear it occasionally - It definitely gets more than occasional use - The J version is classic PP, IMHO.
Buy it. IMG_0216.jpg |

That's a hell of a case. Decided I'm going to go for it. The honey strap isn't for me, but the watch itself is. Very elegant. Very classic.

A darker and more casual strap makes the watch very versatile for a YG case. See the dark, matte, brown in my post above. The contrast stitching also helps. I have a lighter strap in calf that also works well. |

I don’t do frequent strap swaps, so it’s not much of a hassle to move the clasp when I change. I just have the one deployant, but ordered extra screws and springbars to have in reserve. |
