Should I be wary of this Double Red Seadweller?

Hi everyone,

I've not been on the forum for a very long time and had to register again as I've lost all my previous details.

Anyway, in brief I have a Rolex sub dated 1974 and have always been looking to upgrade to a double red.

I've been offered one which has a case serial number approaching 6 million which dates it circa 1980 if I'm correct.

From limited research I get the impression that the double reds should end at a date around 1977 so should I be particularly wary of this one before I go any further? I've not even gone into the fine details of the dial or case back or anything else yet as this issue already rings alarm bells in my very inexperienced ear.

Thanks in advance for any advice or help offered and apologies if I've said anything particularly stupid already.

A 6M 1665 can never be a double red... There are some nice 1974 1665’s on Chrono24
