White Dial SS Skydweller would be my choice today.

The Skydweller is the better watch due to its functions but it is just too chunky to be sensible. If Rolex could get it down to 40mm then I would look again at it.

The Daytona (which I have) is just plain over rated and would sit unused in a safe like mine is now. The only reason for keeping it is that it is likely to be an investment. To summarise, it was a let down.

So neither gets my vote.

Regards

Mick

Two different watches.

Do you need a chronograph or a perpetual calendar?

Sky-Dweller, annual calendar, dual time zone.

More complications that are useful to me.

There was a time I'd have said Daytona (in white). And if I had the opportunity in real life I may still take that option.

However, having seen and tried on the SS Sky Dweller, Id have to say that one gets my vote. With the white dial. It is much nicer in the metal than the pictures would suggest.

TT its no contest. TT SD with balck dial. Its beautiful.

Daytona hands down

IMHO - Skydweller looks like a extra large DJ41. I'd rather get a more traditional annual calendar. I know Patek and ALS are different price category but i'd save up for those ones instead. Or maybe a JLC

I vote Daytona, black dial. Iconic, easy wearing. I have no use for a 2nd time zone and already have an IWC AC which shows the day of the week, month, and day.

Just flipped my Daytona so I'd go Sky Dweller for now.

I'm gonna give the sky dweller a shot, will I keep it forever prob not. I have a love hate relationship with my Daytona, but It's a watch I could never part with and trust me there's days where a new scratch pops up on a pcl and I wanna spike it on the ground and put it out of misery...but I don't, I wear her and love her.....I don't think I could have that type of relationship with a skydweller..

Here's the choice imho:

Daytona is a classic with a huge fan base; as a collectable they're highly sough after. For many they're very high on the list of watches to have. They can be difficult to read and wear smaller than they really are. Because they are highly sought after they command a premium price so for many they aren't only a watch but an investment.

The Sky Dweller is new to Rolex having been introduced only five years ago. They are much flashier than the Daytona because of both size and fluted bezels. They are more technically advanced and much less common than the Daytona. They don't have the well developed fan base that the Daytona has. They are relatively large on the Rolex size continuum. They are not for the conservative Rolex collector. On the other hand, from an Annual Calendar perspective they are relatively inexpensive. That said, Rolex isn't know for their ACs and as such the movement is a bit of a gamble in comparison to the Daytonas which have been made for many years. They not only have the Annual calendar but also a second time zone function. They also are comparative in size to other ACs.

I'm not conservative and I can definitely use the functions the Sky D provides much more readily than those provided by the Daytona. The watch size doesn't bother me at all so the Sky D is the way I'm rolling.

I own plenty Daytona for my collection, but no Sky Dweller. I just don't see much value in adding a white 116500LN when I already own a late model, green tag 116520 (white) from 2016...

I have a white face Daytona 116500LN. I put down a deposit for the blue face stainless steel Skydweller this past weekend. They are very different watches and I like them both. I can be considered a Rolex hoarder. I wear my Submariner that was purchased in 1991 about 99% of the time.

The Skydweller is not a perpetual, just an annual calendar.
