New email Scammer!
As my last lookout post this seems to try to run the same scam. Copy and paste FS post from here. Ask if it is still available and for how much. This time he waited and asked if I would trade instead. Sent a link to his "gallery". New email is AP Collector email Apcollector9@gmail.com.
Will update soon as this email string is currently going on. I just asked if he would take $10,000usd for his collection. Please watch out

Received a previous email from under the email Watchcollector. Received another this morning from AP Collector. Keeps sending me links to his collection and asks if I want to trade. Trying to go along with the "trade" to get any info I can.

When selling a watch most people like myself list it as a contact.

I actually fell victim to this APCollector guy. I was selling a Citizen Promaster and received an email about a trade. In my haste, I clicked on the link in his email (it looks legit). That was enough to get him to take over my account. Many thanks to Stephen for catching this and alerting me (and, justifiably, being rather concerned with my online savvy). But, I can't thank him enough for his efforts and vigilance, along with all the moderators at TRF.
So to everyone, Gepetto (the real one) is back. A few things I learned to share with all of you: 1) Never click on any links unless you are 100% sure. That alone is enough for these scammers. 2) Don't list an outside email in the advert for a watch you are selling. I know it's a common practice, but I think ultimately it can be somewhat dangerous (especially in a moment of confusion). Have interested parties email you directly on TRF and go from there. Set your email preferences for TRF so that you get a notification on your email instantly (so you can be responsive to buyers). 3) Whether we like it or not, this forum is a target for scammers due to the nature of what's for sale here. We can't let our guard down, ever. |
