What Rolex to buy post Airking /Milgauss
I currently own a new Airking and Milgauss 116400 Black Dial and would like to either sell both and upgrade or sell the Milgauss and change it for a slightly superior Rolex.
Please could the forum advise what they would chose for a stainless steel model which is a class above the Airking and Milgauss. I would go for the iconic. Submariner purely because my father has one and I dont want to replicate this. Any ideas would be grateful although the ceramic Daytona is nearly impossible to purchase at list price. |

What is your definition of Superior? Quality, cost, complications, size, weight, etc? All are Rolex models and will have the same build quality. You could pretty much pick any as they are all great watches... Based on your above post you could go SeaDweller, DSSD, Explorer, EXP II, DJ41, GMT, or Daytona. I left DJ36 and OP off the list due to my interpretation of what you mean by “superior” without you defining it. SkyDweller is out because while it is a great piece I don’t believe it had the “iconic” status yet... Daytonas are not impossible to get. I picked up my Daytona in December at MSRP, no deposit, and only a 3.5 month wait.

Thanks for your reply I really wanted a stainless steel ceramic Daytona but in the UK most of the dealers waiting lists are closed. In terms of superior i was asking for a similar sports watch but a notch up ie. the new Explorer date model as an idea?

The explorer II works nicely if you want a GMT function but don't want to wait for the GMT II. But it isn't ceramic, so you might want to put off the sale until things loosen up a bit.

Get a GMT Master II - 16710 or 16750. Similar to the Sub but classics and historic in their own right.

GMT-II or maybe a 16570 Explorer (Black or White).

Thanks for your response in fact I like the look of the GMT Master 11 . Would you recommend I flip my Airking and Milgauss or keep them and purchase another timepiece?
I would appreciate your comments please ? |

Is anyone in favour of the Explorer 11 possibly and how does it compare to the GMT Master?

If it were me I'd keep both I generally don't part with something in a collection just to add more to it. All this supposing you don't need the money to buy the new timepiece.

I have the ExpII as my daily. I love it. I have other watches that I wear occasionally, but the ExpII is my best daily tool. That said, I’d say that the GMT II is probably more versatile, in case you ever want to have THREE time zones displayed. My Exp. is black. I lust for a white one, but I also lust for a Coke-bezeled GMT. I resisted the ExpII for quite a while because it didn’t carry the “status” I expected. But once I had a long talk with myself I realized it really was the best choice for MY lifestyle. This probably doesn’t really answer your question, but for me, it came down to having a pile of watches that I enjoy fondling, but ONE watch that works FOR me every day.

I'm thinking your best bet for what I think you are looking for is a GMT Master II, Sea Dweller, or Submariner. |

I'm with the GMT II crowd. Either bezel.

Go to modern GMT Master II 116710, and BLNR with blue/black ceramic bezel is preferred, IMHO.

Sell them both and pick up a white dial Sky Dweller at MSRP. They’re out there.

I had an Air King for 9 years and traded it in for Black GMT. Huge upgrade: bigger dial, date feature, adjustable clasp, PCLs, better accuracy, definitely a step up.

I’d treat yourself to a GMT functioning watch. The 16710 is a modern classic that has 3 bezel color options, two different bracelet options and its value will hold for the long term.
