New to TRF, looking for some tips to buy my first Rolex. Perth WA

Hi All

Glad to be a part of the community here.
I’m looking to buy my first Rolex. Either a SubC Hulk or a DJ with the blue dial.
I’ve set myself the price range of $12k AUD.

Any other members from Perth, Western Australia? If so I would love to hear some tips or advice on buying a Rolex in Perth? Also your experiences buying from the ADs around here.

I look forward to hearing from everyone!

😊

Huge shortage in AU at the moment mate, go to all the AD's in Perth and get your name on the waiting lists. Good luck.

I'm Melbourne based.

My advice is don't focus only on Perth, I got my Hulk when I was in Dubai. Not sure about your budget though - a well known reseller in Melbourne had a couple of Hulks for $14k+

I'm in Melbourne as well, and my advice is "buy 'em where you see 'em"
I bought my BLNR & Daytona C whilst on holidays in Hawaii..if you see 'em - grab 'em...
My DSSD deep blue is coming from my AD here in Melbourne... first "local" watch...
Good luck with your hunt.
Welcome to the forum,

cheers

See Ron Smales at Subiaco.

He is a very special guy and will look after you.

Not sure if he has the models you want but he will do his best for a local.

There's a Rolex Boutique at Sydney Internaional Airport now. If your travelling overseas you can pick one up tax free.

Good advice, Ron sold me a Daytona in 2009, I did wait on a list for 18 months but got there in the end. Nice people to deal with

Glad to to feel the warm welcome by everyone!

Anyone have any experience shopping at Watches of Switzerland in Perth, King St?

There is a fairly new Rolex boutique at Crown in Burswood but they have huge stock of DJs.

A big thanks. :)

Welcome, Watches Of Switzerland are great to deal with. DJ Blue should be far, far easier to get hold of than a Hulk.

You won't pay $12 k for a DJ , go for 10% discount.

Try Darren at Swiss Watch Box in London Court, he sometime gets second hand pieces in, sometimes second hand in mint condition as well.
Good luck.

My tip. No matter what model you are buying, buy SS. Forget TT. You will not regret.

The DJ II is a worthy competitor to consider, imho. It's from the series of Datejust watches that were produced just prior to the newer DJ41 models. It might be easier to find and/or available with some financial incentives. Here's mine. I personally think it's a great watch. It's handsome, rugged, fun to wear, and it features an absolutely beautiful blue dial. Fyi, photo was taken last May when it was green here in the States, lol. Good luck with your search! Regards, -Rick.

Welcome to TRF. Funny, in the US, WA is the abbreviation for the state of Washington. Having lived near there I was expecting something different. Currently sports models are difficult to come by. This seems to be world wide. The hulk is likely near the top of the list in desirability so particularly difficult to get. DJ41 are likely readily available and have a new movement with more traditional design features that make it both popular and available. The last round design was the DJII which some love and some not so much. They can be had for a good discount if you happen to like the styling and are willing to live with out the latest and greatest engine. If the hulk is really the one you want then hunker down and prepare to wait a while as you hunt one down. In the grey market they are trading at a premium so once (if) you find one at list it will have good value. Again welcome to TRF.

What happens when you bring it back? Dont you have to pay GST then?

You only get it tax free if you leave it overseas and present it to someone right?

I would get the Yacht-master 1 16622 or 116622. You can get one for under 7k and it can be worn with anything.

I bought mine in Wellington tax free. I was flying to Sydney the following month and had it pick it up from Wellington airport upon departure. No hassles.
