I'd probably wait a couple of months and see if the Hulk's hype transpires into real desire, if not then trade it for the DD.

The hulk is amazing. You were lucky to get one. I would enjoy it and not regret the decision.
Besides, the DD is something to look forward to. We all need something to strive for and the DD will be all the more special when it arrives. |

These claims that the Hulk is being discontinued has gone from crazy to just plain silly. Why in the world would Rolex discontinue a classic Submariner, in the official color of Rolex, that is in great demand, and is relatively inexpensive to produce? So that grey dealers could hoard them and sell them at an inflated profit?!?
Every single bit of that is exactly the last thing Rolex wants. #StopTheLunacy

Every reference will eventually be discontinued. Rolex hasn't become what it is because it sells sliced bread or a mousetrap. Not only does discontinuing a watch make room for innovation, modern design and improvement... it also serves as possibly the greatest marketing tool used in the watch market. While I don't think Rolex loves gray dealers hoarding watches as you mentioned, there's no doubt that the ridiculous demand that comes along with it, is good for Rolex as a brand, as well as their current sales. When you see vintage Daytonas or even a submariner selling at such a premium with such a ridiculous demand, it makes people think every rolex will achieve the same. |

This is promising news. I have seen a few of these threads where someone has "happened" upon or been offered a Hulk. Perhaps that means my wait will be shorter than initially anticipated!

I was lucky to run into a Rolex rep inside a boutique a few months ago and asked about the Hulk being retired. He chuckled, and said, "let me guess, watch forums....."

I really don’t see a down side to holding on to the Hulk. If anything it will rise in value and you can sell it for the DD36.
Try it for a while. I could grow on you. |

If you can come out a little ahead or just break even, flip it towards the DD. It doesn’t sound like you’re crazy about the LVC. I’ve never needed time for a watch to grow on me.

Only you can answer that question. The key word is “eventual” in your first sentence. Sell and get DD.

Isn't the D blue 116660 discontinued? And so is ... Etc.
I agree the 116610LV Hulk is gorgeous, but so are so many other pieces. My take is always to buy the most expensive piece on the list first, everything else down the ladder later.

I took a break from the forums from just after Basel '17 to about six weeks ago, so I obviously missed the start of it. That said, I've been here pretty solidly since returning, and today is literally the first I've heard of it. Go figure.

I'm still not clear on what the basis was for the rumor. In what way did Rolex almost confirm it?

Flip the hulk and make some money. Go buy the watch you want.

don't recall dropping shy of $10K on a watch in the hope it would grow on me...If you don't love it, take advantage of others desire to own a "hot" watch and flip to buy the DD you do really want.

I would keep the Hulk at least for a few months and see how you feel. It may take you a very long while to get the chance again to purchase the Hulk at a great price.
The DD is not so rare and will be available when you are ready to purchase, you should also be able to a get a discount on the DD price. Good luck |

There's a rumor the Hulk won't be discontinued after all. In fact there’s a next gen Hulk coming with a 41.5 mm case, slimmer lugs and darker green bezel. I put my name down for one (Santa’s list).

I bought one late last year on rumors of it being discontinued, and when I saw they were shipping again I sold it. Walked into my AD last week and told them half-jokingly if they ever got one in to call me. Got the call the very next day and decided to buy it at retail. Now I can wear it and if I decide to sell I’m feeling confident I will not take any loss.
If you really don’t want it, list it here for a few $$ over what you paid. It’ll probably sell within hours.

I admire the beauty of the Hulk and have owned it several times and sold it every time. For the price and where the Hulk sits in a 10-15 watch collection it does not work for me. It is easy to get caught up in the TRF/Internet hype of reviews and pictures and believing a watch is collectable or will go crazy price wise in the future but that has not been my experience. Sure, SS Rolex Sport model prices have increased in the second hand market and from the Grey Dealers and AD's have limited inventory. A price increase is always pending, etc. Buy what you want, when you want it and can afford it. Don't keep a watch you don't want to see if you grow to like it. Find your DD and work a deal. Move the Hulk and whatever else you need to so you can start enjoying the DD. In my experience there is always another hot watch that is out or pending release. Good luck.
