5513 dial
Hi all,
I am a new comer and wanna buy my 1st vintage rolex. Attached pls find 2 photos of a 5513 that I wish to buy. The photos were taken by the seller and he claimed it is a maxi dial of 5513. The serial number is 57xxxxx. I wonder if the dial and insert match with the serial number, may I hv your professional advice?? Many thanks, Eric |

Guys, serial number @ 57xxxxx shall be dated 1978-1979, I wonder if the "Submariner" shall be above "660ft = 200m" for the said period??

its not a maxi ...looks like a pre comex smudge dial...often confused as maxi..but it also looks a little weird...square head on shot needed or me not to look at it on iphone ..or both...
serial is a fraction late for the dial if pre comex anyway .... not impossible , but raises a small eyebrow.... |

Many thanks for your reply. I think the serial number doesn't match the dial too, so no go for this one?? The seller is asking for USD 5,500.00

My understanding is the the horizontal bars on the f and t on the ft should line up on Maxi's. See this link about halfway down page:

To correct myself. It looks like the mark 3 dials t and f bars don't line up. But the word submariner is on top of the depth rating. Reference:

Found this to show a compared Maxi I, Maxi II, and non-Maxi on a 5513.

That's a serif font pre comex dial. It's very rare. 5.7 mill maybe a little late for that dial, but it's hard to tell.

You will find a lot of info on Maxi dials here:
http://doubleredseadweller.com/5513maxi.htm I would say that these dials are pre-comex rather than Maxi dials |
