A Lange Sohne 1815 vs Daytona WG, which one?

So guys, need some recommendation here. Baby boy will be born soon, and want to get something to commemorate the occasion. Bought a Sub ND when my daughter was born 4 years ago and thought of buying something a bit special for her brother :)

I found A Lange Sohne 1815 Chrono, WG black dial 2nd hand with good price, 2018 good condition, and the same guy is also selling brand new 2019 Daytona WG for a premium price, which roughly almost the same as the 1815.

The 1815 is good since most of my watch collection is a sport watch from Rolex, plus the 1815 is a bit special (stepping up my game here), but the 116519LN is a 2019 production which I think would be nice to have, since it's a birth year watch (the plan is to pass it down to him later on).

So any recommendation for my 1st world problem here?

I don't really know much about Lange if I'm honest. Out of those two I'd lean to the Lange on looks alone but only just.

Your sub and the Lange would be a great pair.

I really like the dial of that Lange. It’s like you travelled back during the time of steam engine trains.

Lange. Same size but totally different styles. If I was to have a single watch it would be a Rolex. For a collection the Lange is hard to beat with that amazing display caseback and movement.

Lange for me. But make sure you can read the dial on either. Sometimes silver hands on a black dial can be difficult to read.

1815, I think it’s one of the best values in a manual Chrono and finishing is beautiful. You said you’re also sport watch heavy, so maybe consider flipping a diff sport watch and picking up both!

Lange! Are you kidding? :-)
One is a horological timepiece, while the other is an overhyped sports watch.

I would say Lange 1815 over Daytona every time. But you mention they are “roughly” the same price... seems more like a no brainer now. Lange is 40k and Daytona 30k typically in most markets.

This isn't a fair comparison.

One is a very common watch that comes in many guises.

The other is a very well balanced watch that is rare, stylish and sophisticated.

The 1815 Chrono all the way here.

I have a 116519 LN and it gets a lot of wrist time despite competing with a Nautilus and Royal Oak, amongst others. It’s a terrific watch and I wouldn’t want to let it go.

But...given that I have another couple of Rolex models (Sea Dweller and BLRO), to add balance to the collection, I would be highly tempted with replacing the Daytona with the Lange.

So, in your situation, I would go Lange.

Guys, thanks a lot for the feedback, seems that 1815 recieve more love.

@juanwinston yes! I watched several Watchfinder videos regarding 1815

And on a side note, I do have Daytona C white dial :), 1815 would be a nice additional to the collection.

In that case I think 1815 is the better option for you :)

Lange without question--especially if you have another Daytona.

If you are on the fence at all just turn them both over and look at the case back view. The caseback view on the 1815 Chrono is one even Dufour could not resist (datograph has the same caseback view).

Unless you really the brand recognition of Rolex, I think Lange is a better choice. The dial design of 1815 is just too perfect and really can’t be compared to the Daytona.
