AP Deposit

Greetings all,

I was asked to wire transfer a 50% deposit to AP. Their explanation for this is because I'm new to the brand, i.e. no prior purchases.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Just want to make sure I am not being mistreated/scammed.

Thank you!

when i bought mine two years ago i was asked to pay around 35% to get the allocation, but they also said i had to finish paying the rest before some date which was a few weeks before i would get the watch. essentially had to pay 100% in the next ~2 months and got the watch not long after. no idea if it’s normal but i didn’t mind to be honest. i knew i was going to pay the full amount and would be getting the watch so i didn’t care if it was paid before i got it or the day of

Which boutique is this? Depending on the piece it's either a 25%-50%, so it's not entirely uncommon.

As long the deposit is direct to the AP boutique and not AD or grey dealer.

Also you should be super happy if they are willing to taking a deposit from u ! as it means a confirm allocation for your lovely time piece. As many boutique now stop taking in deposit and only offer a interest list...

Assuming it’s a boutique, you’re not being scammed. They may not require a deposit from their established whales, but it is standard practice at AP boutiques, at least the company-owned ones in the U.S.

I was asked for a 25% deposit, and they only asked for more when I switched my allocation to a more expensive timepiece. On my own, I did pay more toward my deposit after a few months so I could pay an even $10K balance when the watch came in.

And as @Sookanian just said, in my experience, putting down a deposit with AP meant I would be getting a watch. I spent some time on a couple AD waitlists in the past (not AP), and it really meant nothing.

I had to put down 25% to secure a 15500ST last year. No wire transfer though, they accepted a credit card. I paid the balance when I picked up the watch.

I was asked to wire the full amount back in May, which I thought was strange. I did end up doing it, though.

No, deposit required on my 15500ST from AP NYC but they did require a wire transfer for the purchase as I was a new customer.

If this is a corp boutique I wouldn't hesitate. But if it's a partner boutique, I would speak to a manager and get terms in writing.

Thank you all for the reassurances!

It's the NYC boutique. Novice question perhaps, but is it refundable? The reason I ask, is I have put my interest down at the Dallas boutique as well. So I'm wondering what my options would be if they received an allocation sooner.

Ask the boutique if it is refundable. My guess is, if it's an in demand model which they will not have a problem selling, it will be refundable. Every deposit I have made with various boutiques has always been refundable.

Why not? It shows you are serious and puts you right in front of the line for a watch many others will ask for but never get.

With the NYC boutique you’re in good hands, go ahead with the deposit. The reason they ask for wire transfer is because you’re first time client, on your second timepiece you will be provided with a link to place your 25% deposit using your preferred method of payment.

Most likely deposits are refundable, but to be on the safe side, you should ask your sales person.

Good luck

Recently paid in full up front for my Daytona 116519LN and received in less than 30 days! Long standing AD in NorCal and they only asked for 10% up front so, paying in full was my call.

I put down a 25% on both my 15400st and ROO CE 44mm. It’s not unusual for the boutique to ask for a deposit since it secures your allocation.

It was MG in NYC. They’ve been super kind and helpful from the beginning so I don’t mind. I had dealt with the Westime boutique in LA a few months prior to that and it was pretty frustrating.

maciej,
Westime had a shop in Malibu for a short time. After first visit, I didn’t even window shop there. Bought a few pieces from Traditional when they were in Malibu and their Newport store-was always a great experience.

I made a deposit and that was refundable (stated in the receipt)

As long as it is to an AP BT, then it should be fine.

Would advise to go down to the boutique and make the deposit physically. It will come with a receipt stating that its refundable as stated above.

If you can't go down physically, make sure you do your due diligence on their email to make sure its not a scam.

You're in good hands with Yoni and team over there.

Maybe you can state in a handwritten note transferrable to a RM 10 if AP piece doesn't come through! What piece is coming? Very excited for you? (PS, this means yes, deposit with the store should be fine. PPS, they store is also the partner in another AP branded boutique in case you need more piece of mind).

Agreed, Yoni has been great. Hoping to have the watch on my wrist before my 25th birthday next month... we’ll see!

I think this reply is meant for me? I’m waiting on a 15500ST. Yoni told me it’s possible to request a custom rotor as well, so we’ll be looking into that after I get my piece!

Not uncommon. If NYC boutique, no worries at all. I know from my experience for Blancpain LEs they want 100% up front to be guaranteed the watch
