Leave it on. Travel quite a bit and never had troubles... yet. If it is not someone in line, TSA employees have a long history of having theft problems.

good to know, sounds like more of a thing with international flights. I've always left mine on in US airports and never had a problem, and recently had a TSA officer tell me to "NEVER take off my watch".
I am planning some international travel later this year, maybe I'll just bring a casebudi and throw it in my carryon before arriving at the airport so no one sees it. Sometimes tough when the screener doesn't speak English, and just to avoid hassles. |

You know, as much as I travel, I've never been asked to remove my watch. I don't know if TSA pre-check has anything to do with that...

I always travel with my Seamaster on my wrist... my Rolex will be in my carry on thank you.... I would refuse to take it off as some have said, they shift stuff around in the plastic tub and really can mess up a shiny watch in an instant.

If I'm traveling outside the US, I'll usually wear a less costly watch. State side travel, I keep it on or remove it and put in my carry on. I'll not put it on the plastic bin and risk theft.

Well I literally just got through the security at LAX. My GF Didn't have to take off her Rolex, but I had to take mine off. The reason is that the ROO 44MM is too big.

Typically in Europe they will ask you to remove your watch.
I wore my DSSD through security in Scotland on my way home from work yesterday. The agent asked if it would be ok.....yes I told him....then prayed as I went through with it on. Thankfully it didn't go off : ) In Frankfurt they always make u take it off....no sense of humor about it. So there I remove mine and put it in my carryon beforehand.

Same thing for many years: Take off while in line, wrap well entirely in soft cloth, insert in secure/padded pouch and then into my carry on piece until passing security.
Once through, remove from pouch, put on wrist and smile that I put the extra effort into a few moments of foresight and not trusting a lovely TSA employee to handle my watch in the tray or at any moment in time. :D |

One would expect that in the aviation industry there would be international consensus about security checks etc. Everywhere it's different rules about liquids, shoes on/off, jewellery you name it. They can't even agree on the size of allowed carry- on luggage. Amateurism all over

A good friend of mine is a TSA agent and instructed me to simply put my belt, watch and anything else in my pockets into my carry-on prior to getting into the security queue. That way I only have to remove my shoes and nobody sees my GMT II. That said, about half the time I travel internationally I wear a less-expensive watch. This year it will be a Marathon.

I've never been asked to remove it, even when waiting in lines and the TSA people are telling everyone to "remove shoes, belts, & watches"
I just leave it on my wrist and so far so good. I think with the new machines it doesn't really matter. The days of the old metal detectors are over at most airports. |

Never have been asked to take off my watch. However, if asked I would politely refuse. I would be a nervous wreck to have my watch out of my control for even a brief period of time in a location such as an airport security line.

Never been asked to remove my watch and I'd politely turn them down if they did. No idea what they'd have to worry about a watch for.

I usually don't take it off, but if I do I'll put it in the pocket of my jacket.

Leave it on. Never had a problem.
Lately, though; I haven't been required to go through security. |

As others have mentioned, US flights, never.
International flights I have had to remove going through Warsaw, Helsinki, Tallinn, Frankfurt, and Moscow, but not through Hong Kong, Hanoi, or Da Lat.

my goodness what needless worry
airport security as well as law enforcement in general shouldn't be viewed with such blanket disdain. simply having a cooperative attitude and going with the flow would make life much easier since these agencies are tasked with the huge responsibility of keeping everyone safe. refusing to go along with simple requests to remove a watch just makes everyone else's life at the security checkpoint more difficult. if it's such a big deal then stick the silly watch in one's bag and get it over with. sheesh what's next "is it safe to wear one's rolex when using a public urinal and how many shakes should be the maximum?"

Generally agree. However, have you ever been treated with "blanket disdain" by people because you have expensive possessions? I have and airport security/law enforcement are no exception - particularly in China and Southeast Asia where I do most of my traveling. A change in attitudes on both sides of the equation would be the best solution. You know, they don't treat you like a rich foreigner jerk and you don't treat them like an ignorant third world peasant with a badge. However, I'm sure that's wishful thinking human nature being what it is and all... Kinda boggles the mind that no one has implemented a way to meet security objectives at airports whilst simultaneously caring for delicate/expensive possessions like jewelry and watches - especially in priority lanes for first class passengers. Seems like a no brainier... I mean how hard is it to have a padded tray for example As to your last query: it's 3 shakes max. Any more than that and you'll make baby Jesus cry - everybody knows that haha :p Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I usually say the TSA person, "I don't need to take this off, right?" and show it to them on my way into the metal detector. They have not made me put a Rolex through the xray yet.

Once I went through a body scanner & my wrist was highlighted. Had to take my watch off & for some reason my wrist was still highlighted. No one knew why the machine had gone off because of my watch, but the girl I handed my watch to so I could go through a second time was a little scared to even handle it when she saw it was a Rolex; she actually made sure that it never left my sight. Kinda funny.
