speedster- the original? the new original? no bling?

I have followed the posts here for a while being largely unfamiliar with the Omega line but having some familiarity with the speedster. I have noticed that the 3570.50 of the current speedster line seems to be the one Omega that many if not most consider the current iconic model. there is also the same model (saphire sandwich) with the clear back case and brownish dial. what I have found interesting is that the "special" speedsters such as the anniversary models seem to have little following. they seem to be actually less desirable, at least from my observation. Can anyone comment on this. If I am accurate, there is a solid focus on being as close to the original moon watch as possible even if it is not one of the original models/movements.

Personally whilst a glass back is all well and good, the more original Speedmaster has the hesalite crystal which at some angles will distort the dial markers. Makes a change from sapphire glass and keeps the vintage look.

I was a pure Rolex follower but I knew I just had to have an early SMP watch in my collection

I think that is the most interesting part of this: Omega seems to make variation after variation on the same theme. Omega customers continue to buy variations so that business model continues to work for Omega. However, when it comes to the Speedster line, the Pro continues to be a solid seller and the 3570.50 continues to satisfy the largest demand because it is the closest in all respects to the original moon watch. Is it just a unique group of Omega owners or is there really a desire amoung Omega customers to stay with tradition on some watches, particularly where as Zingari points out, that the hesalite crystal distorts the dials at some angles. Despite that and despite the annivarsary models, people continue to say, essentially, buy the most traditional watch; ignore the special versions. seems like a break from most of the Omega buyer thinking.
