I was pulled aside by a billionaire broker and shown a graph of the stock market since the 1900. He basically told me that this is the market over time, and this little blip here (he points) is the Great Depression: "the market will always go up over the long term." A few months later the 2009 crash started. I couldn't help but feel that he knew the crash would happen and that it would eventually end up being a blip like the Great Depression, and that his lecture was really advice to stay in the market despite anything that happens. It makes sense. Market panic episodes aside, the market will always grow as long as we keep having babies and don't run out of resources.
