I don't know man. I feel like if I wanted a Rolex copy I'd spend 500 bucks on a Steinhart. I like Omega because it has it's own identity. You wouldn't know it looking at these releases, but still. And the whole O-Megasteel schtick, I mean come on. A million years after the fact they want to mimic oystersteel marketing? I think Omega did themselves a disservice yesterday.

True...but not a lesser price any more!

I don’t really get the Rolex copy thing. For example the aqua terra already existed. Are we really saying that no one can use the same colour going forward as Rolex? There aren’t that many to go around.

Did anyone accuse patek of copying Rolex in releasing the green nautilus?

Equally, the Seamaster. The green makes sense as they didn’t have a green diver and they are popular. What other colours were they supposed to bloody release it in? Mauve?

Why Omega went down the Rolex homage road when they could reach into their rich heritage for inspiration is a mystery to me. Instead we get O-megasteel...

I recalled i read that the green dial is very dark and dull and might even cause some legibility issues. I have a reservation about this colour. However, the burgundy red 57 speedmaster is indeed a very interesting one and will be on my list when availability comes.

O-Megasteel, dude. O-Megasteel. If Patek released the green Nautilus in Pate-Steel I assure you we would be laughing at that too and accusing them of copying Rolex.

Calling something ridiculous like O-mega steel doesn’t make it a Rolex copy. Albeit I’ll agree it’s a bloody stupid name

I wouldn't go so far as to call it a homage, but there's no doubt it's a late entry coat tail rider. Same with the oysterflex Daytona version of the Speedmaster released yesterday.

All too big for my taste these days. Give me a nice 38/39/40 sports model. Even better, desirable 36mm models.

I actually measured my new 3861 Speedmaster bezel at only 39.8 mm and the female end links have no additional flare. It wears easier / stays put on wrist better than a 40 mm sub or gmt for me.

Hey now, be nice, the entire department has probably been on Covid vacation and the naming got assigned to some college interns.

Now I'm just waiting for Brietling to come out with Navi-Steel and IWC to debut its new Pilot-Steel references. AP could easily wrap up Royal-Steel and Vacheron would refuse to be outdone with it's Over-Steel line. Of course the more rugged of us wouldn't be left out if Casio would finally unveil some G-Steel models.

What's wrong with college interns? I love college interns.

Personally, I'm holding out for NOMOSteel. As in, we ain't got no mo.

Or BamSteel from Bamford. Jerky Boys style advertising their ridiculously hard steel... "BAAAAM!!!!!"

Not a green fan in general but always loved the rolex green/olive dial and gold combo (both day/date and daytona) and feel similarly about a few of these omegas. The green SMP300 not for me at all so I'm sure it will explode and be a 20k watch this time next year :D

The more I look at the new '57 line the more I like it. THIS is how you do a chronograph with a date!

The green and blue dials are stunning

The best thing about these releases is that for most you can prob walk in and buy one …. But other than that, honestly, these releases seemed rather uninspiring and as others have pointed out, a bit of following Rolex trends in colorways, albeit in clunkier cases.

The one exception perhaps is the moonshine gold / green dial speedy- gorgeous.

I think it was a brilliant move on their part.

In the friendly spirit of debate, can you explain how that's a brilliant move? I'm genuinely curious.

Although there’s some direct comparisons to the Rolex models - I think they absolutely hit it out of the park with these new releases - really well done.

Thanks for sharing. What struck me looking at this is how much better looking and balanced the speedy’s are compared to the Daytona’s, and I own both.

On the bright side, once Rolex unveils their new models in April we'll have a pretty good idea of what Omega will release in 2023.

what kind of discount do you think one could get on a Moonshine Gold from an AD? 15%? 20%? 25%?
