Early odds in Vegas for next year's Oscar host is Mike Tyson.

Well, shoot, even I realize that's really bad advice.

It's pretty clear that Will Smith thought he could get away with assault because no one was watching.

Thank you everybody. I'll be here all week, make sure you tip your waitress.

I would normally agree buy would Will Smith really put his wife through that just for laughs? The whole thing was weird though. The Smiths were both laughing when he told the joke, then suddenly the slap.

Or The Rock....and if Kid Rock had slapped Chris Rock then Kid Rock would be in jail (house rock).

Probably some will smith/ Chris rock movie in the works they’re getting publicity for.

Didn’t Andy Kaufman invent this type of “comedy”.

Who knows maybe Will snapped after years of cuckold jokes, but it was a bald joke that got him?

Oscars

Seemed more like a mental break or he was on el perico that night.

I sort of feel like if it was a setup rock would have acted a little more macho in the altercation instead of just looking like he was uncomfortable and trying to diffuse it by putting his hands behind his back.

To me his body language didn’t scream setup. If it was they choreographed it well. I also would have expected a follow up joke from rock in a set piece but he was scrambled.

He's reportedly now apologised to Rock and the Williams family, and is disagreeing with those who excused his actions.

Its an insincere apology by Will Smith, motivated by the prospect of losing his Oscar after the Academy announced they were intent on making a full investigation.

No apology given for the base level profanity he spewed out over the world to millions of viewers.

Too little too late, and in any event do we let off criminals because they say 'sorry' when they get caught out and confronted with their illegal behaviour.....

The only thing Will Smith got right was acknowledging his behaviour was 'inexcusable', so lets see where this goes.

Completely unacceptable and inexcusable behavior. He should be prosecuted. Had I done that, I would have been tackled by security, escorted out and arrested.

Really strange how the show just went on after the meltdown by Smith. He wins the award and the crowd gives a standing ovation lol

Yes. His publicists and agent clearly getting ahead of the Academy but I think he should lose the award. Anything less condones the behavior.

Just another example of how out of touch these people are. To think that people actually idolize actors is truly baffling.

I can't help but ponder, what Cary, Audrey, Fred, Sir Lawrence, Princess Grace and James Stewart (to name, but a few) would have made of that dreadful 'scene'......broadcast live, into every American home, and beyond?

Embarrassed beyond words, I should think.

"Throughout life people will make you mad
Disrespect you and treat you bad
Let God deal with the things they do
Cause hate in your heart will consume you too
Always tell the truth, say your prayers
Hold doors, pull out chairs, easy on the swears"

I think Anthony Quinn would have raised an eyebrow when Smith stole his "I am a river to my people" line from Lawrence of Arabia.
