Why so much dislike for the tridor

I was looking at the 18239 Tridor, one without diamonds and a silver dial. I really like the fact that Rolex put so much effort into making this watch. I know its not for everyone, and agree it brings back the over exuberance of the 80s, but why do so many Rolex enthusiasts hate it since it was such a great part of DD history?

I think it’s a fantastic watch, the band is as good as it gets from Rolex INHO

Not for me but Midas went from selling for gold weight to big figures quite quick, maybe Tridor is next...

Tridor not Tudor

I've never heard any hate for the tridor bracelet. I've seen a few dial and bezel combos with it that are, well, rather exuberant and not my style, but on a more simple model it's fairly subtle and quite awesome IMO. Maybe some people liken the WG/Tridor combo as too similar to a SS TT bracelet?

I’d say there’s some who don’t prefer it as a DD option, but it’s not hate. it’s also misunderstood and looks meh in images. I think it’s just an amazing vintage alternative. Might even add one to my collection of 72.

I love the Tridor and hope to add one to the hoard someday!
Just got a new watch storage case that holds 50 and I have a couple open slots so maybe sooner than later

How about a review of a Tridor example by the incomparable Tim Mosso?

I don't worry about people who worry what the average Joe will think about their watches. I much prefer having a watch that not every idiot can ID. It's better for me if they mistake it for something of lesser value.

Never seen this before and I really am intriguing to see one In person. That is so cool. Is there any thing else that Rolex puts out?

For sure, hiding in plain sight. Although you'd only throw off the casual watch fan who might confuse it with a TT DJ or possibly illegitimate, which is rarely the radar we want to fly under, the wrong crowd would just see a Rolex

Hm! Those fancy multi-metal center links are definitely are a helluva feat...but I confess to finding the thing a tad weird-looking.

I don’t think there is “hate” for the Tridor, just unfamiliarity, myself included. A friend acquired a nice example two years ago, and until she sent photos, I had never seen, nor heard of one !

I think they look fantastic on wrist, especially in person !

It is not for me, but nice looking. From what I understand, and anyone please correct me if it is untrue, but I heard that the tri-color did not wear well with time. I.e. The rubbing and wear unevenly making it look… “sloppy.” Does anyone know the true story?

Here's my '86 with the WG bezel. It's a very unique piece.

Imho the Tridor wears like any other 5-digit DD. You might refer to the tri-colored bracelet.

Although the golden strips (RG-YG-WG-YG-RG) on the massive links technically are well defined, in extreme lighting situations it's sometimes difficult to spot the difference between RG and YG with the naked eye, the more so as many models had a "sloppy" polish with the result that the bracelet lacks definition. I have also seen examples where some kind of oxidation happened to the YG portion of the bracelet resulting in being darker than the RG. Also the WG in the center of the bracelet has a blueish color.

The Tridor has an eccentric feel. It was sold originally at a much higher price point than a regular DD even though the demand was low. It has gotten something like an acquired taste for watch connoisseurs

The Tridor is a highly unusual Day-Date in that it features all three shades of gold – yellow, white and rose.

Most of the dial colors I see for sale clash with it, IMO. I think it's beautiful with a gray dial.

Nice; was the YG bezel changed to WG or originally sold like that ?

Thanks. It was sold with the WG bezel, which was a Rolex authorized option.

My parents’ Tridor set. They like the bling. It’s heavy and the bracelet is pretty uncomfortable when wearing a prolong period.
