Went NATO on my 1655, thoughts?

A few weeks ago, I posted on TRF that I wanted to switch things up on my Explorer 1655 Steve McQueen as it wasn't getting a lot of wrist time compared to my other watches. A few members posted pictures of their 1655's on NATO straps and loved the look and added color so I went with that and got to say, I love the way it looks! Kept with the orange theme with the black with a hint of white to match the dial and hands and it just give this watch new life. Really pops, has a James Bond type feel, classic look, and is comfortable as well. Think this will get more wrist time for sure, especially when I want to put more color ony wrist. Let me know what y'all think!

I’m usually skeptical about taking a Rolex off its bracelet but that looks sensational. Not just that the colours go well, but it has a cool ‘70s vibe without being kitsch.

Have you tried that 1655 on a suede 2 piece strap yet? It would be EPIC!

Yeah same, which is why I posted that first posted asking if I should change the band on it first as I was skeptical as well lol but when several TRF member supported changing the band and posting their own 1655's, it seemed a fun way to give it a new vibe. And it's super easy switching the oyster bands on these older Rolex's so if ever I wanted to put back the OG bracelet, it'll just take me a few minutes. But this NATO def gives it new life, makes me wanna wear it more for sure

Love Natos but I like the solid colors more personally.
That would look great on a solid black, gray or orange but all together I don't see the watch just that band.
I bet it would even look good on an OD Green or Tan

Considering the greatness of the watch, I'd be concerned about the quality of the pin buckle on a cheaper nato like that one.

Good thing about the NATO straps is that it's easy to change so I can always buy different colors and patterns depending on how I'm feeling. Having a few solid colors is definitely something I'd consider. Appreciate the comments

I've had several of these straps on other watches for several years and pin buckles have been fine, but never on a type of watch of this calibre so I understand your concern. Because of my smaller sized wrists, the excess strap is also folded and tucked into the metal buckle at 12 o'clock as seen on the pictures so if ever the pin for some reason did fail (knock on wood), the strap wouldn't completely undo because of that, but I'll definitely be more mindful about it

Looks good personally I have a preference for plain natos, as sometimes find striped or patterned ones distract from the watch itself

I like the watch, but I don't understand the attraction of NATO straps. They look so unnecessarily bulky to me with the extra buckles to contain the long strap.

Too Busy for that watch... would look great on a solid grey, black or sand colored NATO.
