Baltimore tips

Just moved to Baltimore for a fellowship at Hopkins. I am going to be living in Fells Point. Is it safe to…. Just kidding. For anyone familiar with the area, any recommendations for restaurants, favorite crab cakes/sea food, things to do, near by places to see? Outdoorsy stuff is definitely a preference.

Got a nice view of the harbor from my apartment. Honorary wrist shot included!

Grew up about 20 minutes from Baltimore but haven't lived there in 16 years. Parts of the city have changed considerably since I was there and much of my my recent experience is limited visiting family that live in the harbor east and fells point area. Some recs:

Lochbar - restaurant / bar at the four seasons. Some of the best crab cakes I've had
G&M - about 15-20 mins outside the city but also fantastic crab cakes and less boujie than Lochbar
Maximon - if you are into tequila this is a tequila bar in the four seasons that has a great selection and a great outdoor seating area
Tagliata - Good italian food
Vida Taco Bar - great tacos

Do they still eat Lake Trout in Baltimore? Lots of regional food in that area.

Fells Pointe is beautiful and you are close to Camden at the same time. I haven't been there in about 8-9 years but should be lots of good restaurants in that area as you move towards the downtown. Hopkins has great security on its campus but if you stray off of it you are in a war zone Good luck.

Nice pictures and watch. No advice on where to go or what to do. I enjoyed the HBO Series "The Wire" which is set in Baltimore but if you watch that you might feel the need to leave. Good luck.

See if you can join the Maryland Club (they may have a membership category for visiting med/academics) I have a buddy who belongs and we go whenever I visit Bmore. It's a good spot for food/drink/squash/steam room.

Great view! I was only in Baltimore once for an NFL game but had a great Italian meal at Sotto Sopra.

Babe Ruth’s house is a fun visit as is a game at Camden Yards. The aquarium is great. Fun beach towns not far in Delaware and Ocean City MD.

It’s kind of an inside joke for the locals. Ask a native where you can eat the best Lake Trout.

That is a nice view, for sure! I went to Towson State U. in Baltimore for a year, you can definitely find yourself in the wrong area fast. I suppose the good news is you know when you have arrived! If you haven't watched it, you'll need to watch the old series "The Wire" to get the full scoop lol.

If you haven't already, go get a snowball with marshmallow topping. To anyone not from the area, this probably sounds outrageous, but I assure you that it is exceptional.

Apparently Fells Point has changed considerably since I was in the Coast Guard.

What kind of fellowship are you doing? If it’s part of your medical training, congrats on the gorgeous view. My view of Minneapolis during training was dirt, asphalt, parked cars and syringes in the gutter.
