It’s surprising to see how much influence MB has.
They made a wrong design and now the rules have to change

Do you remember the token system for the PU's? When all of the other manufacturers got it wrong in the beginning, Mercedes agreed to scrap the token system so the other PU suppliers could catch up. Now the PU's are fairly equal across the board.

Fair point but MB can easily reduce the bouncing if they really value the health of their drivers.

Rules seem to be changed at will, last season they seemed to be changed with a couple of laps left of the last race.

Welcome to Canada :)
PS: We had a track that deer were known to come across. There is a special hand signal to the flag / corner staff if we drivers saw one. 1.jpg 2.jpg 3.jpg 4.jpg

Now Dave, the rule didn’t change - the Race Director got changed though. Was an official’s error methinks. Quote:
No rules change. Will be using an existing regulation to control this. In fact they’ll likely be the unhappy recipient of more scrutiny methinks. See F1 Tech Regs 3.5.9.e. (& k. to s.) - that’s one area to control the amount of bouncing without esoterically invading the aero design choices that vary by each team. Jo Bauer and competitor teams will be coming up with a metric/tolerance after the practice sessions. Not sure of the algorithm but if a team bounces enough to endanger the driver’s well-being, it will likely violate the metric/tolerance. Could be an elegant quick fix to a problem that teams should have (and likely could have) rectified before now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

While waiting for this year's F1 sports entertainment, may i suggest watching the 1999 Montreal Grand Prix. Here's after just a couple of laps, with a few names you might recognize.

So all the Mercedes complaints to the FIA about the new chassis being hampered with severe porpoise effects... have been answered.
The crux of the Mercedes complaints are that the porpoise effects caused by the new 2022 rules have been and continue to be a safety issue and are therefore dangerous to the drivers. This is mainly because the Mercedes engineers have NOT been able to figure out an acceptable solution, based on their design philosophy, that the other top tier teams have been able to solve and mitigate. The FIAs response... we agree with the idea that an unsafe car should not be allowed to race... meaning, that if a team is unable to produce a car that can not operate within an acceptable range of safety set forth by the FIA and all the teams technical experts, that team WILL NOT be allowed to field their cars in a race! FIA-1... Mercedes-0... The teams will be mandated to subject the cars data as it relates to vertical acceleration during FP1 and FP2 and if they can not solve those issues before FP3, they will be mandated to raise their chasis ride height by 10mm in FP3, probably good for a loss of at least .5-.7 seconds a lap. If, after raising their ride height the car continues to exhibit unacceptable vertical acceleration, that car WILL NOT be allowed to compete in qualifying! Game over Mercedes... It appears the whiny nature of the 40 million dollar man has infected the entire Mercedes Team. |

Please take your head out of the sand. Have you not heard Horner and MV the last two days. They are crying like middle aged school girls. Funny how they were perfectly fine with the FIA and all their decisions the last race of the season. The $12million whiner needs a raise for as much as he complains in and out of the car.

Sir Lewis Hamilton has once again proven his generosity to charitable causes.
The seven-time F1 world champion, 37, leads the sporting world in donations. Lewis Hamilton sits fifth on the Sunday Times' 2022 Giving List after donating £20m in recent months. Lewis is an easy target, being successful, wealthy and sometimes slightly eccentric, so the bitter cynics here (you know who you are) will always sneer and throw cheap insults his way. Most of us I suspect, hold a more balanced view, in that, despite what some sections of the media may have us believe, behind all the 'tinsel' of public life, Sir Lewis is a quite a good bloke really. |

You sound like such a 'generous' character, how much of YOUR worth, net or otherwise did you donate this year? PS. Those mobile, red chicanes, are looking a bit fragile lately. |

Mate, would you mind translating into English as this makes no sense. I just gave LH praise for generously donating??

https://f1i.com/news/445165-leclerc-...n-the-bin.html The bottomline is simple - MB wanted help from the FIA because they didn't design their car correctly. The answer is simple: raise the ride height and the bouncing stops, but that would affect performance. |

I don’t often quote a driver.
In one of yesterday’s articles (discussing the tech bulletin going into force), VER said, "I think it will be hard to police in a way, but we'll see." Yeah, I have to agree. For the avoidance of doubt, the regulation to be employed already exists. Rather than it being a “new rule” - the effort now is to calculate the metrics/tolerances of a fair standard for measurements on bouncing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Questions:
1. Will the Canadians make the top 3 drivers wear Mounties’ uniforms on the podium? 2. Will the top 3 drivers be escorted to the podium by a cavalcade of moose on motorbikes Time will tell. |

The Official Formula One Thread!
So…if you like F1…and you can’t control your political or other biases…please find a different thread to get yourself banned.
This will be a “last chance” opportunity to keep this thread open. It was locked for a while (and some banning done too) because some people seem hell-bent to vent private thoughts that are flagrant violations of the rules. Can we resume with the sporting side now and leave the racial and other ad hominem rants off? Thanks goes to Steve for another chance here. Maybe you saw this already but the AMG team’s porpoising problems apparently are not due to any rules non-compliance nor recent new scrutineering metrics. The post race inspections met specs for HAM. Just saw the long list of upgrades Mercedes has brought to this race weekend. Looks like they're going for broke and their tone seems to be that it should work. Let's see.
