Ok, I'm jealous......Talk about the PERFECT retirement home! It's a man's, man place! (Not that a chick couldn't find pure happiness there as well).

The purging has begun in my home too...what a chore cleaning up my 35 years of accumulated junk.....

Tools tools and more tools.....shame, so many are now obsolete.....

Enjoy your new crib there Don.

Very nice and very well-planned. Everything you need and nothing you don’t. Great job.

Morton was the first place I looked, but the “residential” classification created a few code complications in my county. A typical 2x6 wall on pad construction proved to be more cost effective.

I’ve already designed another, identical to this, except with 2 less garage bays and 2’ lower roof line over apartment for a “potential” Montana move at actual retirement.

Words truly can’t describe the joy of being free from continuous upkeep costs/debt/time of a conventional house ! Of course, this all in light of being single and planning on staying that way.

Very well thought out Don.

We did the same when we renovated our bungalow. We also have a walk in stepless shower and we planned for handicap implements such as grab bars etc. When the time is necessary we can just add those.

My parents moved to a care home within the past year and the monthly cost for seniors care is astronomical. I was literally gob-smacked by the cost.

Our home is now ready for us to live in until such time as we need care givers to come and help us. I’m never moving, at least that’s the plan

Same here.

Until the time comes that full nursing care would be needed, I can be totally self sufficient.

Love what you've accomplished there Don.
You DO realise that you HAVE impressed others with your lovely home?
I bet the designing, planning and project management was a brilliant experience. Sounds like you're already making plans for the next stage of your life. I envy you that.
Have you chosen a nice plot, in the mountains somewhere?

Many years ago, I thought I had the perfect set up too, but it turns out, the then, wife wasn't too keen on the Red Ducati SP916 mounted over the main fireplace. So it was wife or the Ducati........ I don't miss her, at all.
Did I mention the tall blonde Marlboro girl? Well she wasn't keen on her either.......Ho hum.

Well done Don, very well done.

Interesting radical lifestyle change. I'm sure you spent a great deal of time thinking it through.

I keep thinking about a tropical island shack on the beach but it seems they cost millions now.

The "container house" and "tiny" houses look like an interesting option as well.

My wife is 11 years younger and not ready for any radical changes yet so I'll probably drop dead before she's willing to leave the corporate lifestyle.

I am nowhere near retirement age, but I have been trying to talk my wife into something like this since we got engaged!

I love it. Very happy for you!
