S A P - again.....
I've been in training all morning (and will be all afternoon) on the capital project management modules of the new SAP software our company is going to. If you recall my previous post on purchasing, what originally took me a few minutes to do without SAP will take 30 minutes with SAP.
Well, this session is even worse. All the accounting that used to be done by the accounting department is now moved to us engineering types. I didn't go into accounting as a profession for a good reason (I hate it) so now that it looks like 40% of my time will be accounting (when it was maybe 10%) I guess my life will change. I've always done budgets and justification for expenditures, but now I have to do all the detailed tracking of everything. I question the logic in this because I would think for the sake of tha company I would accomplish more as a "doer" than a "tracker." Actually I'm not getting the worst of it, as some of the people in accounting will lose their jobs over this. The most amazing part of this is that my manager sort of "stumbled" upon this training course, and none of us in the engineering area were even slated for this training, yet every project we have would grind to an immediate halt if we didn't know how to use these modules. So this is crammed in, last minute training, before this SAP system "goes live" this weekend. No one implementing this system seems to have a grasp of the "big picture" to let us all know who is affected by what. I can get used to any software, but it's the "not knowing" what other snag is lurking around the corner that worries me...... I'm kind of glad I have a few days off next week so maybe some of the issues will be sorted out by the time I come back to work. |
