Blue surprise

Today we had another ‘Blue Surprise’ in Rotterdam. What is a ‘Blue Surprise’ you ask? Well, I’ll tell you! During a blue surprise, which lasts several hours, Rotterdam’s finest book everything and everyone. All things that are usually overlooked, even the most minor offences, are booked. It rains tickets during a blue surprise. Which leads to scenes like these: a disabled person receiving a ticket because he was riding his electric trolley on a bicycle lane instead of on the pavement. But where are they when a sleezeball breaks into a car for the 50th time in a row? Because I have ‘inside information’ I always know of these events beforehand and I also know that some cops hate these raids but they have to partake in it on turn. But the law is the law......

Sorry, Frans, but this 'Blue Surprise' thing really sucks and makes no bloody sense at all. Something like that would NEVER happen in NZ....not in a trillion years!!

It is to teach the average Joe that the police are still there. And I could tell you stories about the things these cops do themselves but that's not the point here. I'd rather see them putting all this effort in chasing real punks. But it are the big wigs that decide on these raids, not the flatfoots

AGreed Frans. They should put all of that time and effort into catching real criminals.

That really sucks, Fransie. Things like this really shouldn't happen You're right, there is no need for trivial ball busting when there are more important things to do. Policing should be about being reasonable and acting in good conscience most of all. Discretion is key. summons, arrests, "booking" these things should be truly earned. One of the most important tools an Officer has is discretion. To simply make reference to a minor infraction and let the person go with a smile goes a hell of a lot farther in the long run then writing them a silly ticket.

A cop knows he had a good day if he makes it home, but more importantly, if he can look in the mirror and be proud of what he sees. Breaking balls for trivial things that the Officer probably does himself from time to time is nothing to be proud of. As far as the handicapped guy is concerned, there isn't much to say about that. That's just a damn shame

And above all else, that golden rule thing, really isn't a bad rule to follow
