While the majority of my interest in watches has been on sports models, the stella dial day dates have always caught my eye.
Where these dials only on the 18xx models?

Anything to look for with a watch that came originally with a stella dial? Would love to have a white gold with a red stella dial or a yellow gold with a green stella dial.

I went to the AD to try some 36mm DDs. None of my friends own a vintage DD so I had to try the modern version. Not much difference to 18000, right?
Unfortunately, they didn't have any balck dial models.

Also, I tried the new DJ 41 which I ruled out imediately as I consider it too big.

Here are some photos.

That's a beauty.

Jst an update from me. In making my decision to purchase the DayDate was also the question if a pm watch would suite me. I never wore any jewelry so it was a doubt whether if I'm gonna be ok wearing a gold watch.

So, I came across a vintage yg OP....price was right and I bought it. I said to myself that if I don't like it I'd resell it easy........and I'll know for sure if getting a DD would be right.
Long story short, I love this little fellow.
I, now, know for sure that a vintage DD is pretty much the watch I want to have and I wouldn't be surprise if it would become my daily beater.

3 years later ..... I got my day-date.

It is 1989, WG, 18239, double quick-set.
Is it vintage? Well, it is 30 yrs old but looks quite modern.

I enjoyed the hunt, it is a milestone for me. Thanks everyone for helping me with info and shared their experience.

At some point I shall look into some cool good quality leather strap. For now, I am enjoying it as it is, especially because the hot season has started and a metal bracelet is a must at the moment.

Thank you so much! My hunt is over for now and I couldn’t be any happier.
I decided not to play the waiting game for any new ss sports models and to get my grail Rolex now rather than later.

Thanks to everyone for all the in sight. I had a 1807 19 years ago and sold it. Fast forward and now I want another Day Date , I have noticed quite a few 4 digit models { head only } at 5K ish that don't seem to be selling. I know they can be a pain to adjust at months end, and starting to think a likewise 5 digit for 800-1000 more maybe worth it. I would prefer to buy the head only and go with a leather band. Your thoughts ??

Thanks Chris

Great thread. Glad you finally got what you wanted. I’d wanted one for a long time. Always wanted a black dial. Just got it and love it. And the whole ceremony changing day and date just makes it more special.
