The re-release of the BLRO didn't seem to slow the rise in prices for the 5-digit models. In fact it might have rekindled interest in the older models. I guess the differences between the 126710 and 167xx are enough that folks see them as completely different animals.

My Pepsi 16710 was my first Rolex. I'm not sure the world has gone mad particularly for the 16710. I'd say $15,000 16610LV, $9,500 14060M's, and $20,000 pre-ceramic Daytonas are all pretty "mad".

Had I come in to the watch game right now, I don't think I would have enjoyed it - at all.

Due to a flurry of watch buys in 2008, I still have a stickered up 16710 with the different bezels, and a separate jubilee bracelet.

Think I will gift this to my brother.

You’re confusing a modern 116710 with a 5 digit 16710.

I agree. It's an absolute icon. It's what I thought a Rolex was when I was a kid.

yet a 16570 Explorer 2 which is virtually the same exact watch without a rotating bezel stays put. I'll never understand how the value is determined in some of these watches. Especially when there are millions of examples. I guess when something is hyped people are wiling to pay anything

I believe the day will come for 16570. It was always a very slow seller and quite undesirable when released and during its production years. Less pieces means less availability = rapid increase, “IF” the watch begins to get a future cult following. Its already trading for more than its retail back in the day but, not as much as the 16710, which, if used as a benchmark, makes 16570 look like a laggard but...any watch selling for more than it cost, over a decade later, is very good going.

Here are my two...

I wrote my review of 16710 two years ago and they were around 6000 Euros. I thought they were crazy expensive.

I’ve said it a couple times here recently and I’ll say it again, it might be the greatest reference Rolex has ever produced.

I really dig the 16750. My brother-in-law has one and I always admire it. But to say that it is "virtually the same exact watch" as the 16710 is not quite accurate. Functionally yeah there are similarities; the 24hr hand being a main one. But the two references are dissimilar in so many other ways.

I have a seldom worn 16710 BLRO that I’m going to part with as soon as all the crazies drive the price up enough to cover most of the cost of a new JKL. Shine on you crazy diamonds!

I bought a 16710 pepsi 18 months ago for $9k. It's a 2006 one and in mint condition.

If I am honest I simply don't like it. Sure the bezel is awesome and the colours fab, but the crown is too small and its a little too rattly.

I want to swap it for a YM Blue 126622.

I see that you own a 16610 Sub. Given that the mid cases are identical, I'm surprised that you don't like the GMT2 but do like the sub. They seem equally "rattly" to me.

I can see what you mean, but the sub feels and wears heavier than the GMT, I think due to the larger case back. The crown is also significantly larger.

The sub is perfect, the GMT not quite.

The 16710 is probably the most versatile watch ever made by Rolex. Very comfortable, super luminova, 3 time zone, date, fairly light, and you can scuba dive with it no problem.

The Sub clasp is way bigger too, which has a surprising impact on the feel.

It doesn't, simply because many, many 1675s for sale looks like expensive trash. If you restore a 1675 to looking good the value drops - but it will look fabulous. So, even though the 1675 can be nice - it's a vintage minefield. With a 16710 there are no such mines to step on.

Take these two 1675s from HQM as an example. 18K and 16K for this trash...? On way. Of course there are some nice 1675s out there, but they are way pass 20K - and when you want to service that one...well, most people will have a challenge.

Going the 16710 route, there are nice examples everywhere - and you can service it and restore it any way you like it.
