one can be had at a large discount from AD/grey new, versus the other has a waiting list for full MSRP. Price difference isn't even close. Based on these, people have clearly decided.

No. It can be argued however though that the 2018 seamaster 300 is the better watch vs Rolex submariner apples to apples.

Rolex only wins in the ‘perception’ category

I have several of both. The Sub is more iconic but the Seamaster is a better watch.

No but the current Seamaster is a better watch than the current Submariner in some ways.

Having had Rolex’s and Omegas, I don’t know if I would spend 8-10k for Sub. It’s a divers watch at the end of the day and a very plain Jane one too. I think the Seamaster has more personality and it’s a fraction of the price!

New SMP >>>> Sub

The Sub bracelet however, is better. This is where Omega cut corners. No taper.

Not the rubber strap on the new SMP is sweet.

No based on name only. The Omega quality and technology are great. My doctor wears a Seamaster to go unnoticed. I busted him!

Actually yes, wearing an Omega itself is prestigious in it's own right.

Omega as a brand is well respected, but nowhere near as prestigious as Rolex's marketing dominance. Personally i love Omega's diver and speedy range, they are amazing value time pieces.

As prestigious, no not at all. It is however a nice watch but it wouldn't be considered to be as of the same high end status as a Rolex. I have both.

OK, I'll play but first, you have to define "prestigeous".

But I'm fairly certain, regardless of which definition we can come up with, the vast majority will all agree it isn't.

Odd that the question was even asked in the first place, but odder that you'd post about it in multiple forums

I think it depends on who is looking at it and who is wearing it. I have Omega friends who put forth a very good discusiion as to why they are superior. Everyone is entilted to an opinion. I started with a Rolex Submariner and will always be fascinated with the watch and the brand so the Omega discussion does not hold alot of water for me but then again, that is my opinion.

I personally love the looks of a Seamaster and would like to own one soon and also a Tudor GMT and yes a large part of it is based on cost but I think they are both nice watches but doubtful one could do a side by side with a Rolex

My oldest and first venture into Rolex was when one was handed down to me. It belonged to my grandfather and he bought in in 1956. He wore it for 30+ years and It runs flawlessly even today.
My first omega was given to me by my father who bought it in 1971 and wore it for 30 years before he handed it over to me... .and yes, it still runs amazingly well. I alternate between them and they are both valuable to me.
My grandfather was a Rolex guy, my dad liked omega, and I love my AP.

I bought my first omega in the 90's and my first Rolex shortly after that. The GMT II was less than $4000 back then.

My most recent Rolex was an explorer 1 and the most recent omega was the SMPc.

They both are robust, excellent timekeepers, and tough sports watches.
Both are well known and respected brands.
I feel omega has stepped up their game as of late.

I alternate between my Seamaster SMPc and 16613 sub. Both are beautiful timepieces and comparing them for what they are....watches that tell time and made to high standards of quality, I almost feel the omega is a step up.

The omega is comfortable to wear - I purchased the adjustable clasp separately and it is the best investment for anyone who has an SMPc on bracelet. I love the way it fits and looks. An excellent timekeeper.

The SMPc was around $4000 - a lot of watch for the $$$'s. But if I had to trade it in or sell it, I would be lucky to recoup $2600-$2700.

I bought my sub for $3700 and having worn it well, I should be able to get anywhere from $7000-$8500 in a pinch.

Get what you want and what suits you....whatever makes you happy. Don't let perception get in the way.

I own a sub and used to own a seamaster. Both are exceptionally well made. What I can say is that the sub appears more classic and less trendy. Some may find the sub boring and I can see that side of the argument whereas the seamaster is more contemporary. The older I get the less flashy and trendy I am, so the sub works for me and was a gift so not going anywhere.

As for “prestige” Rolex is Rolex. They are probablly the most recognized and trusted luxury brand period.

I used to work for Omega and the brand remains very dear to me. But I cannot say they hold the same prestige. Omega makes plenty of products that rival (and many beat) Rolex. But they make just as many if not more that hurt the brand either though poor design/execution, or their incessant need to produce a limited edition every week.

Omega make damn good watches, but like it or not a Rolex is a commodity, it transcends it’s horological purpose. You could swap a Submariner anywhere in the world for food, shelter and safe passage.

Rolex may be recognized as a brand, but it is far from being recognized as the best or as an expensive watch.

It's like a Lexus or Mercedes or BMW... recognized as a luxury over a Toyota or VW or Honda, but not even close to or on the same playing field as a Bentley or Maybach or Rolls-Royce.

If you are buying a Rolex over an omega for price recognition, may not be worthwhile.

If you are looking for expensive watch recognition, you would have to "upgrade" from Rolex or omega to one of these brands:

Richard Mille
Greubel Forsey
F. P. Journe
Patek Phillippe
Audemars Piguet
Vacheron Constatin
Lange
Gronefeld
Louis Monet
Moser & Cie
Jacob & Co
Arnold
And a few more....
