Finally Got the Tudor 76100

I started a thread a few weeks back about this Tudor Sub 76100 that was offered to me and the owner finally relented to sell the watch to me for $5k. Its is very good condition and appears to be unpolished. Its a 1985 model with heavy oyster bracelet already. Another great addition to my collection.

Beautiful. I love the no-pip vintage look, and that lollipop looks delicious.

The case back engraving is intriguing. I wonder what the story is behind such a personally precious piece being sold. The recipient of this gift would presumably be in his mid-fifties...

Is it just me but I find I look at this watch engraving and feel a little melancholic, the original owner may have had to sell what I'm sure was a prize possession from his father. I'm sure he would love to have it back. Then again maybe the owner has past and his heirs had no interest in the watch or needed the money. Its interesting when one buys vintage as everywatch will have a past.

Indeed, food for thoughts. I'd never buy one engraved.

Agreed, or maybe the kid was a dick and didn't appreciate the gesture. I had many friends that were so distant from parents and could care less if they were gifted something beautiful like this.

Beautiful watch OP, and 5k is a steal. Wish i could find something like this locally.

I also had second thoughts about it but the owner told me that he bought the watch 5 years ago from a dealer so doesn’t know also who the real owner was. In case the real owner pops up and show me proofs that he was the original owner, I would gladly sell the watch back for what paid for. In the mean time, I will enjoy wearing my latest catch.

Just curious do you live in the philippines? I visit there once a year and stay for about a month in Makati but never wear my watches because people tell me it's not safe, ever had any issues?

But what if market growth made it double what you paid for it? You'd have to sell it back at the market price, no? Otherwise you'd be losing thousands...

Most cities in metro Manila are ok. There are just certain areas that you should avoid where most tourist would not venture into. Let me know when your in town so we can hook up.

It’s my loss but that’s okay since I made someone very happy for getting back a sentemental watch which he should not have sold in the first place but may have had valid reasons for doing so before.

I'm genuinely enjoying the discussion about engravings. You're all so marvelously positive! Just as humans lie, engravings also lie. Often the romance of collecting old things leads to idealization of the past. I knew a guy who used to engrave his stuff with his name, his military unit and serial number. Problem was, it was all wishful thinking, he was never in the military. I've had admirers give me "personalized" engraved luxury items, hoping I would treasure them, I've sold them without hesitation or feeling. I've bought engraved items NEW, at heavy discount because the customers who had paid for the engraving never picked them up. "Happy 21st Love Dad". Maybe it was an insincere attempt to get back into a young person's life by the absent father who abandoned him decades earlier, eh? Yes, there are millions of stories, but even the sad ones aren't always sweet or kind.

Great patina on this one and always nice to see them sans cyclops, 5K is a great price!
