Thoughts on this 6542

Hi all,

I’ve been in contact with someone selling a 6542 (bought in auction 2 years ago).
Serial 39xxxx.
Here is the original auction listing : « A fine stainless steel pilot’s wristwatch, featuring day/night, 12/24h & second time zone reading. Black gilt dial, closed minute-track, luminous patinated hands & indexes, sweep center seconds, roulette date at 3. Automatic winding movement caliber 1030 "butterfly". Aftermarket revolving bakelite pepsi bezel, rivetted band with deployant buckle. »

The dial seems very nice, but service hands and aftermarket bakelite. 7206/80 bracelet, - crown ...
What do you think of it? Are original hands unobtainable? Can a nice gilt small triangle insert fit into that bezel?

Thanks!

I would like to see someone's comments on the dial plots. I have seen a few radium plots looking like that which turned out to be fake. Not saying this is the case here.

Hands do not look service, they look aftermarket.

I would want to see engravings too.

I wouldn't feel confident buying this watch.

Im no expert at all but that looks like one of those vietnam builds.
Case looks too fat in height and bevels are gone. Id stay away from that one.

Experts will chime in.

Edit: Bracelet looks off too. Looks to new and seems to be too thick at the rivets.

That’s very interesting, thanks!
If it’s indeed partly fake, it would mean that so-called experts et an auction house were fooled, it was sold at the biggest one in France 2 years ago

Auction houses sell fake goods all the time. Anyone buying high ticket items through an auction house without excellent knowledge of their subject would be foolish to do so without an expert second opinion.

Don’t like the dial, hands nor bakelote. Not confident on case and caseback either. I don’t even like the roulette date wheel.

I would imagine that papers are a lot easier to fake than a dial or a case or a crown even...

That doesn’t leave much left
I’ve been comparing the dial with known genuine ones and the typo does seem off in some places (like the « R » from « master ») so unless there were differential types, it’s wrong...But damn they are good!

Well, that’s the thing, most people would think the « experts » work with the auction houses and that it’s a safe place to buy (they provide a 10yrs warranty after all I think...)

So everyone agrees it’s not legit? If so, I don’t think the seller knows ; after all he bought it in auction not so long ago...Should I tell him to have thoroughly checked so he can take action against the auction house? Where then?

Auction houses have generic experts....maybe only 1 or 2 actually have a real Rolex expert there...even then when they see $$$$....they might look the other way

For my knowledge (and not only for me I'm sure), I'd like to know how you see that the hands look aftermarket? Thanks
