A bunch of old guys (or maybe young) guys who can afford to buy expensive watches arguing about expensive watches as if the fate of the world depends on the definition of vintage. Hilarious.

I do think there is some "vintage" gatekeeping here though where people think the criteria are set in stone and never going to change. |

I don't think a watch from 1984 can be considered vintage. My two cents.

Its whatever you want. The only reason someone wants to know its vintage is either to label their watch as such, or for marketability on value of the watch.
When you sell the watch list it as vintage. If people don't agree that the model or year isn't vintage or vintage enough for them then they won't buy. I don't think the vintage police will come knocking on your door.

I don’t mind; I just wait for my early 2000’s 5-digit to become Vintage.

I think is a fun argument re: Vintage and I personally feel the lines are blurry. 4 digits obviously for the most part are all vintage with some in the neo-vintage realm of the 80s and onward to early aughts. I feel like the reason 5 digit models are more vintage than non-vintage is the dramatic differences between 5 digit and 6 digit models (engraved rehaut, incised crown on crystal, case size, etc.). I also think 5 digit models are going the be the new collectible models in years to come.
