Incoming First Patek

I thought long and hard about which should be my first Patek, and decided on this above all others. My number one choice was the 5976 40th, but I didn’t want to wind down my whole collection to get it. I settled for this factory sealed 5980. Many thanks to David Butler at Watchbox for sourcing this amazing piece, and with the excellent value placed on my trade pieces.

A thousand kittens screamed and perished when you cut that seal but I agree that their deaths are worth it. :)

Congrats, a truly spectacular piece and one of my favs.

Another thousand will scream and perish upon the first mark on that bezel, but its worth it.

Yes, I was kind of surprised that Patek’s come shrink-wrapped like bacon. Weird. Dealer said I could smell fresh swiss air when I cut the bag

Oddly enough, I while researching the 5980, I had read a few of your comments about it being a great watch and your favorite. I had seen one a year or so ago and particularly liked the case with the pushers and the simple bullseye dial. I saw a few for sale while on business in Europe but the prices were up to 30k more than here in the US. This sealed piece came onto my radar at watchbox so, after a little negotiation, including various traded pieces, I was happy to get it.
