Who knows...? Least of all Rolex I imagine.
Exactly as you say, I have a 3.059 Mk V, so I don´t understand how can higher case serial numbers come with dials such as Mk IV?

Sweet. Can you also post the partial serial? The script is obscured by the hour hand, but I'm thinking MkIV based on the chocolatey dial...

Gentlemen, happy new year to you all. I am new to the forum and had a question and would like to take advantage the brilliant knowledge you possess.

Is there any definitive information on the production years for the Rolex "Red" Submariner? I was recently offered a Rolex Red Submariner with a 1978 serial number. I had understood that production had ceased a few years earlier. I appreciate that it is not uncommon for aftermarket dials to be fitted to 1680s and subsequently sold at a premium. Would be grateful for any advice on the matter.

Thanks in advance

Mr Red Submariner

Mr Red Submariner
Hi, and welcome to the slippery slope!
What’s the first part of the serial number? (Don’t post all of it!)
Most collectors would not buy a Red sub with a 4m serial.
There’s loads of info here:
www.drsd.com
Enjoy!
