My inherited 1953 Rolex 6022, and an introduction!

Hello to the forum, I'm new here and thought I would share some pics of my 1953 Rolex Precision (I believe) from 1953.

I inherited this watch from my grandfather so it means a lot emotionally to me. I believe that it was purchased in Germany in the late 50's. My grandfather wore it daily (he ran a lumber yard), to it was used as a tool watch.

It bears the scars, but has held up pretty well. I think in the 1970's the crystal was cracked and replaced by a watchmaker. Other than that I don't know a lot about it. It still winds, runs, and keeps great time. I wear it weekly to church.

Does anyone have any information about this particular model of Rolex? I've not seen many dials that have the numerals in the positions that this one has, but I know this is a lower end Rolex for the period.

Any information on this model from the experts on this forum would be appreciated, as well as estimated value of these watches at this time.

Sorry about your grandfather. This is a definite great inheritance piece. Hope you keep it and wear it proudly. Can't say I recognize the model. It might help to get the the ref number and SN, which would provide info as to age and maybe help determine a value.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Lovely watch you have there, all the more special since it was your Grandfathers. The Winding Crown is well cool.

Do you have the original bracelet?

The Model reference number and the serial are located at the 6 and 12 o'clock positions if you remove the strap. They are between the lugs.

I have my fathers 57 Precision and the numbers are just about worn away, you may need an eye loupe/Magnifying glass to read them clearly.

Sure somebody with heaps of knowledge will be along shortly with some great advice.

Sorry, the above should say reference is 6022, serial number is 891171. ;) It was almost worn away, but still legible!

Great history!!! I would highly recommend getting the movement serviced. Parts are probably getting difficult to source for a watch this age. A little lube may go a long way in preventing parts wear/breakage.

This is a great point. I think some lubrication would be a great idea, not sure about the parts (cleaning etc.) but I am very sure you are right about the lube. Thanks so much.

YES! lol. I love the watch. My wrists are a round 6 1/2 inches, so the 34mm works well on me. As stated by another poster, I think it would be good to get it "lubed" though, I may try to contact a reputable watchmaker soon. Ahhh...now to find a reputable watchmaker to trust the little guy with!

They can give it a bit of TLC.
