It is interesting to see some of the people who commented about the service dial, including other dealers.

Rolex 6202 - is the dial refinished? luke rottman

This kid is a real bonehead and clearly doesn’t know when to let things go. Instead of leaving my comment where it was at he decides to bring things up a day later

Ha-ha! I certainly have and continue to enjoy the show, but others have been spotting fresh nonsense faster than I could.

His Instagram posts are so immature and revealing.....not that there is anything more any serious buyer or collector needs to know about him.

As for court cases, I make a general observation. Sometimes cases are dropped for any number of reasons other than some deficiency in the claim itself. For example, if something unrelated was likely to be revealed in the course of a case, which the claimant wished were not, he might be more amenable to withdrawing or settling his claim.

Turning specifically to the celebrated case, does anyone know if the claimant still has the watches in question?

Shady. This is why I prefer to deal with fellow Collectors.I read time and time again on this Forum “Go with a trusted Dealer”.In my Eyes every Dealer is out simply to make a Buck,That’s it.If that means not disclosing service parts,Aftermarket parts,Hiding Dial damage with the Hands,etc....As long as the Buyer doesn’t catch it,I’m good.

It's not fair to paint all dealers with the same brush. Many high-end dealers value their reputations very highly, more than making a few extra bucks on a one-off sale. That's why we really need to carefully distinguish between them, and threads like this are helpful. Any time I have had a concern about a watch purchased from a dealer, the seller was responsive and made it right.

At the end if he's out the been shady and not disclosing info shame on him....but at the same time if your in the market and looking to spend $10k+ on a vintage piece and you didn't do your homework and this guy gets you.... then the buyer is partially to blame. Look theres TONS of shady people in this biz who sale watches/parts for something there not. The great part is forums like these exist for experts to chime in and provide proper guidance. In the end let karma deal with him for what he's sowed.

OK, officially my favorite thread in my decade on this forum. But I like horror movies too.

This guy is one reason buying vintage Rolexes from anyone has become so scary, and why all dealers, even the good ones, are dragged down by his nonsense and lies.

His IG posts is this thread are beyond immature and would be hysterical if not for the serious nature of what he represents ... a lowlife.

Yeah, I really can't believe he acts that way on an account that's supposed to be for his business. I don't think I said anything outrageous to him and he went nuclear lol.

I have seen many questionable Watches sold by “High end Dealers”.It’s gotten worse recently with the hyper active Market. In fact a Watch I sold a couple Weeks back that had Dial damage is up for sale with a big Dealer with NO mention of the damage and he covers it in the pic with the hour hand...You be the Judge,Is that OK behavior?

Definitely not OK. It would be great to start a new thread to describe that whole situation.

Just got done reading all 11 pages and all I can say is thank you and kudos to the moderator and other knowledgeable posters for having the correct gut feeling to keep the thread alive while Mr Rottman was desperately trying to have it closed.

He put on a good show early on, had me fooled and then he just devolved into the person he really is. Started right after the rude and immature post with It's none of your business what I do with the watch" etc and then the grand finale with the Face Book comments which are just jaw dropping. How this guy is still in business is also amazing.

This is a great lesson for Newbies such as myself. Scary to think how many people who were not fortunate enough to read this have been duped by this pelican.

Anyone who googles his name should find this forum. I hope anyone spending five figures on a vintage Rolex would do some a de minimis amount of due diligence and find this thread. Only a lowlife grifter would still be claiming these arent service dials.

Sean, I'm so glad you posted the disgusting exchange you had with him. I'm sure he will delete them and now theyre here forever.

When you're a Newbie to collecting you really don't know all the the things you need to do to protect yourself. I bought two vintage watches, a 16760 and a 168000 before I even knew about this forum. It appears I was very lucky and didn't get ripped off. Even though the seller of my 16760 didn't disclose a major gouge on the caseback, the rest of the watch was mint with papers as advertised.

Having known what I know now I most likely would not have bought either watch!
Buying without researching this forum is like tying raw bloody red meat onto yourself and jumping into a great white shark tank!

I think I will stick to the recommended and highly complimented dealers on the forum for my next watch. And submit the name of any other person I might want to buy from for approval first.

Thanks again to all that put the time in to weed out the scammers.
Also is there a book that anyone would recommend to read as a good reference?
I have the Moon Watch Only book that I used before buying my speedy and it was very helpful. But I find vintage Rolex much much more complicated to say the least!!

Just an FYI...there was another bona fide dealer who mentioned it was a service dial in the IG comments...Adam from Menta Watches.

If you look at my post on the prior page, Adam’s post is there for everyone to see, regardless if “The Watch Adviser” deleted it.

The details are here: https://gmtmaster1675.com, in the Matte Dial section.

I think it takes some practice to identify these dials accurately.
