Discoloration in Gold of Ceramic bezel insert

Does anybody know what this is or have experienced it with their watch? It is like a coppery/pink color. Some kind of oxidation? Thank you for your attention, L.P.

Have you been around any kinds of chemicals or cleaning agents?

Geez... well, maybe it can be classified as patina... because it actually looks pretty good if it's aging a bit. (shrug)

Never seen anything like that before, a chemical of sometime could have discolored it? Beyond that I really do not know. I'm sure RSC or potentially a watchmaker familiar with the ceramic bezels could explain it.

And it's not coming off with a wash in soapy water?

Have you thought of using a liquid jewelry cleaner?

Never seen that

I would wash with soft brush and soap, if doesn't come off getting a new bezel would be expensive

I'd bring it by a RSC for analysis.

Possibly a chemical reaction. Who knows with what as gold is very unreactive. Or it could be a latent flaw in the mixture used, like a vein/patch of coppery gold that has become more apparent with wear. Though I'm not familiar with the technicalities of Rolex's particle blasting process.

I haven't seen it on gold ceramic....but the gold bezel if the YM I've seen it. Usually when someone uses a polishing cloth...it discolors the gold beaded part.

Thats quite possible the gold in very much like a PVD coating a few microns thick. If it does not wash off with soap and water I would take it back to the AD.

+2. Looks better, but did they also see it is not all cleaned up? As Peter pointed out, "it's very much like a PVD coating a few microns thick." Rolex does use 18k gold on the numbers.
