Icon5 What to aim for?

Hi guys,

So, the thing is that I'm looking for a Rolex as a gift for a friend. We are a gang that has bundled to get a nice gift and in this I need your help. I am a total newbie on watches but at least know about the legacy and quality of Rolex. So my question to you in this forum is; is it possible to buy a fairly nice Rolex for about 3500 USD?

If so what kind would you think I could aim for? Also, is it pissible to make bargain deals or is the market fairly harmonized?

Also I'm not sure if it matters but i live in Sweden and the watch needs to get sent to Sweden.

Best regards
John

For that you can buy a nice used DateJust or maybe an Explorer 1. Look on chrono24 for used dealers near you and their prices, and go and try the watches on.

What are your customs import duty into Sweden...? Last time I chatted with a Swedish backpacker I got the impression that your customs duty was pretty horrendous?

Duty aside, US$3.5k could find a decent used or vintage Oyster Perpetual say 10-25yo.

Other brands like TAG or Omega you'd get a nice brandnew watch for same $$ :/

Depends on your mentality, do you give used items as gift?

Thanks

Thanks for the replies, the customs adds 25% VAT, that's why many Swedes try to go around customs by setting some lower price on the package and possibly other ways(I'm no expert but I'm sure there is other ways). Yes we don't we any problem by giving a used watch as gift if it is in good condition.

A used AK could fit into that range. Sure you could find one in decent condition.
